Lead Greenhouse Grower
Alaska Seeds of Change (Seeds) is hiring an entry-mid level supervisor - the Lead Greenhouse Grower. This is a full-time (40 hour), in person, with benefits position. The pay range for this position is $16.56-$22.41 depending on experience. Our benefit package includes two health insurance options including an HSA or FSA as well as generous paid time off, and 401(k) with matching and immediate vesting. Position is open until filled.

Priority Objectives of the Lead Greenhouse Grower
- To build an outdoor farm site and urban ag educational program in Anchorage.
- To serve as a case manager for apprentices including check-ins, schedules, and workplace improvement plans
- To design and run vocational workshops with clinical integration.
- To host farmer's markets, pop-up markets, field trips, and tours.
- To write, direct, shoot, and edit videos for promotion and training materials
- To run an indoor hydroponic operation including demonstrative experiments and learning experiences
Skills/Attributes to be Successful in this Position:
- Farming, gardening, and/or kitchen experience.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English.
- Work in a team environment and collaborate effectively with youth, managers, and clinical staff.
- Possess basic computer skills, including Office 365 and/or Google software.
- Project management and/or event planning.
- Ability and desire to lead, teach, and support others as a peer and supervisor.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds and work in a warmer than usual environment.
About Seeds of Change
Seeds is a nonprofit youth workforce development program located in midtown Anchorage, Alaska.
The mission of Seeds is to empower Alaskan youth ages 14-24 by supporting their personal and professional development while growing fresh produce for our community. Seeds is a program of Alaska Behavioral Health, the largest behavioral healthcare provider in Alaska. The Seeds program operates a 3-6 month apprenticeship program in three main workspaces: an indoor vertical hydroponic warehouse, a small collection of outdoor market garden spaces, and in an off-site commercial kitchen. Seeds is a trauma-informed workspace that involves care coordination of participants and clients with Alaska Behavioral Health clinical staff.

Lead Greenhouse Grower
Alaska Seeds of Change, a division of Alaska Behavior Health, is a hydroponic growing facility employing young people ages 16 to 24 providing them with the life skills needed to succeed in the future. We are seeking applicants for a full-time Lead Greenhouse Grower to serve as a core member of the growing team. Employees in this position will be provided with orientation training and a minimum of one hour a week of continuing on-the-job, computer-based, or interactive trainings in various skills domains. They will learn the skills necessary for assisting with all aspects of the Seeds of Change hydroponic greenhouse including, but not limited to: planting seeds; transplanting plants; maintaining growing equipment; monitoring, maintaining, and reporting on plant growth and health; harvesting and packaging products; delivery of product and direct-to-consumer sales; marketing; business operation; and maintaining cleanliness and safety of the growing environment. They will also learn the skills necessary to help run and develop the Seeds of Change vocational training program including, but not limited to: interviewing, onboarding, and training youth staff and apprentices; providing basic administrative and IT support; participating in and facilitating team meetings; and assisting with data-tracking and other fundraising and capacity-building duties. Prior farming and/or gardening experience and leadership experience is preferred. Applicants must demonstrate the capability and interest in conducting research; provide examples of their written work; display an interest and ability to learn new skills; and possess basic computer skills. Physical requirements are the ability to lift 50 pounds and the ability to work in conditions warmer than normal. Salary range is $16.56 to $20.46 per hour depending on experience.
