Full Job Description
Adams Independent Testing (AIT) is a family-owned hemp and cannabis lab. This family has more than 50 years of experience grading, sampling, and analyzing agricultural commodities as North Dakota Grain Inspection. With the newer opportunities opening and growing in the hemp and cannabis industry, we took all that experience and branched out to also create AIT where we solely concentrate on hemp and cannabis. We strive to always provide accurate and timely services for our customers. With our commitment to providing our customers with these accurate and timely results, we are always looking for ways to move our team, as well as the company, further. AIT is growing at a substantial rate, especially with all the changes in the hemp and cannabis industry! Therefore, we are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our incredible lab team! As the Analytical Chemist, you would be working alongside our two other current Analytical Chemists. This is a full-time, permanent position with benefits located in South Fargo. You will primarily be responsible for preparing cannabis samples (flowers, edibles, etc.) and running, troubleshooting, and analyzing cannabis samples with mass spectrometry, utilizing standardized and in-house lab methodology. The position also includes performing general laboratory operations.
What would your working hours be?
Monday through Friday from 7:30am to 4pm
What will you be doing?
- Perform sample intake and processing for all tests, including cannabinoid potency, pesticides, mycotoxins, microbials, among others.
- Perform sampling in medical marijuana manufacturers, including a weekly pickup in Bismarck, ND using a company-owned vehicle
- Conduct sample preparation for analysis on hemp and cannabis samples. This would include using, but not limited to, centrifuge, microwave digester, pipettes, and sonicator.
- Conduct sample extraction, dilution, and analysis using analytical instrumentation including HPLC, ICP-MS, GC-MS/MS, LC-MS/MS, and PCR
- Perform routine instrument and equipment quality checks
- Review reported data and associated quality control and prepare reports for delivery to the client
- Implement and maintain appropriate quality control processes and procedures to guarantee the accuracy of analysis and quality of results, including ISO 17025:2017 standards and the ND Medical Marijuana Program
- Ensure accuracy of data entered into LIMS
- Maintain a clean and well-organized work area at all times, including,
- cleaning the lab each day, and as needed throughout the day, to ensure a safe and sanitary work area
- Rotate stock and maintain adequate inventory, as well as notify appropriate personnel when stock is low
- Assist with the development and validation of new testing methodologies
- Participate in the development of new SOP’s and enhancing of current
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory agency requirements through documentation, audits, and corrective actions
- Maintain accurate and detailed documentation and records, including scanning and filing when appropriate
- Assist in answering customer questions and concerns
- Additional duties as assigned
What skills will you need?
- Must be able to understand and follow laboratory safety standards
- Ability to fluently speak and read the English language, along with understanding and following both written and verbal direction
- Ability to be flexible and function independently, as well as work effectively on a team with fellow coworkers and management
- Must have personal integrity to uphold all standards at all times
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations in different units of measurement
- Basic knowledge of modern office practices and experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word and Excel)
- Drive to increase productivity and efficiencies
- Demonstrate time management skills, accuracy, and thoroughness
What other qualifications are necessary?
- Must have reliable transportation to and from the lab each day
- A valid Drivers License is necessary, as well as a clean driving record with 3 or less infractions in the last 3 years (this allows to get on our company auto policy to drive the company vehicles)
- If needing to relocate to Fargo, that must be done prior to starting at AIT (required)
- Must pass a background check for DOH
- Must be at least 21 years of age
What Education/Experience will you need?
- Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry or a related field from an accredited college or university
- Previous ISO 17025 experience is preferred

COVID-19 considerations:
There are only 2 other chemists in the lab and no customers are able to come in and out so there isn't a lot of exposure to begin with. However, if anyone is ever experiencing symptoms, we have them quarantine immediately and also keep clean the lab daily.
