About This Role
Every position at Common Citizen from seed to sale, is contributing to our mission to serve our fellow citizens of Michigan with the highest quality, safest cannabis product through our highly individualized and education-oriented provisioning centers. The Tax Accountant will be accountable for all employment taxes, assisting with tax planning activities, tax compliance, and tax audits. You will coordinate and facilitate activities related to all thing’s payroll tax, including analysis, payments, reconciliations, computations, and tax form compliance & submission.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:
· Facilitate and manage the preparation and review company federal tax returns and the accurate, timely filing of all tax forms in conjunction with outside tax preparer.
· Ensure accurate, timely filing of consolidated federal, state, and local income tax returns and other business-related filings.
· Find and implement opportunities for process improvement in company tax procedures.
· Develop and implement strategic tax planning for all necessary federal and state taxes.
· Help build-out standard operating procedures for tax team – oversee additional staff once hired.
· Plan for and develop overall return calendar and coordinate timing and inputs.
· Maintain effective control procedures over all aspects of the tax process.
· Manage and facilitate all aspects of tax audits.
· Monitor legislative and regulatory tax law developments, communicate the effects of these developments to management and the tax team and create strategies to capitalize on changes to taxation legislation.
· Provide support with various internal audits and special tax related projects.
· Review tax returns and quarterly/yearly tax projections.
The Experience You Bring and the Skills we Need:

- We are looking for a candidate with 7+ years of experience - prior public accounting experience is a requisite. Big 4 experience preferred.
- Candidates must have a current CPA license - master’s degree in an accounting discipline is preferred.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

P/T or F/T Enrolled Agent/Bookkeeper/Accountant We are a fast growing tax, accounting & consulting practice looking for a sharp, detailed oriented, self-starter who has an Enrolled Agent, EA certificate.
As a part time position, you would review financial statements & trial balances for propriety; then prepare the business returns, LLC's, S-Corps & C-Corps. You would also prepare correspondence with the various taxing agencies, IRS, FTB & CDTFA on behalf of the client.
As a full time position, in addition to the above, this key person will work directly with clients in handling their monthly bookkeeping, tax filing deadlines, and overall account management. Thus, excellent communication skills both verbal and written are a must.
Our practice specializes in the newly emerging Cannabis industry, handling licensed California cannabis businesses as well as the newly emerging industrial hemp market.
Responsibilities will include:
- Strong familiarity with income tax software, ideally Lacerte in the preparation of LLC's, S-Corps & C-Corp income tax returns
- Accounting/bookkeeping compiling financial data for periodic financial statements, and income tax return preparation.
- City & State tax filings for sales & other regulated taxes.
- Managing client expectations and allocating workflow to maximize operational efficiencies.
Requirements:
- Enrolled Agent, EA certification to allow for corresponding with the IRS on behalf of our clients.
- Minimum 2 years experience with Income tax preparation software, preferably Lacerte.
- Excellent Excel skills.
- Must possess strong analytical and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously; consistently meet deadlines.
- Must be detail-oriented and work efficiently with a sense of urgency and high degree of accuracy.
- Self-starter who is excellent with follow up and follow through.
- Desire to learn and grow..
- Positive Attitude !
- For F/T - Minimum 5 yrs experience with QuickBooks accounting software.
