Job Summary
The Purchasing Manager is responsible for managing purchasing of products sold in our retail stores. This position works closely with the AYR retail and wholesale teams to meet our financial forecast and obtain year over year growth.
Duties and Responsibilities

The Retail Merchandise Buyer will support day-to-day merchant activities of the Massachusetts market. Navigating a fast-paced demand environment, the Associate Buyer will primarily support the execution of orders across the state. The primary function of the Retail Merchandise Buyer is to purchase strategic assortments for assigned classifications that will set the bar in the cannabis marketplace and maximize sales and profitability. They will leverage their knowledge of cannabis and buying experience to curate a best-in-class product assortment and promotional offering for CAC retail stores.
Responsibilities:
- Execute variable orders across the state from both internal and external vendors on a weekly/biweekly basis
- Communicate to and develop strong relationships with vendors to ensure product assortment and pricing is accurately reflected in-store and online
- Leverage vendor relationships to research product pricing and enter into pricing negotiations with Vendors as necessary
- Partner with the Marketing team to ensure promotions are executed and messaged effectively and accurately across all stores
- Identify assortment gaps based on SKU count and inventory level targets in collaboration wit the inventory and retail teams. Develop a curated assortment that supports the needs of CAC’s diverse customer base.
- Monitor and update vault capacity targets by store, including working with store teams to ensure targets are accurate and future orders are within the optimal inventory levels
- Own programming of promotions, everyday pricing changes, and catalog management support
- Collaborate and communicate with store teams on a frequent basis with updates on product assortment, pricing, promotions, vendor deliveries and in-store events as well as assuring the assortment maximizes sales potential
- Produce ad-hoc comparative analysis reporting to better understand the drivers of business performance
- Resolve discrepancies with vendor invoices, purchase orders, and manifests
- Identify data discrepancies between reporting tools and POS systems

Summary

About the role:

- Coordinate monthly events to drive sales during peak opportunities (holidays, increased traffic, new brand and product launches, promotional cadence)
- Enters purchase orders into appropriate systems in an accurate and timely manner.
- Follows up on all late orders and upcoming shipments and completes balances as needed.
- Completes all purchase order modifications including but not limited to delivery extensions, cancellations, and cost & retail changes.
- Communicates with vendors via phone and email regarding PO modifications/changes, PO shipment statuses as well as any other inquiries.

The Garden Department requires a hands-on approach, someone who is passionate about all things green! Prior experience (3-5 years) and working knowledge of live plant material and supplemental gardening products is required. Must have experience working with customers in identifying plant growing requirements, pests and remedies as to be able to offer up accurate customer recommendations. With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Wilson Farm experienced an increase in interest of interior greenery last year and this trend continues. We love to educate our customers!
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Inventory/order/receive live plants via growers/vendors.
- Create visually appealing merchandise displays; adequately stock plants/garden shop products to encourage sales – seasonally and off-season.
- Engage with customers to address questions and make plant and/or product selections.
- Ensuring signage, pricing information, and displays are accurate so that merchandise is easy to locate.
- General cleanup of retail greenhouse, shop and yard area to maintain neat appearance, this includes general plant maintenance: watering, feeding etc.

Qualifications:

- Must be self-directed, motivated, demonstrate exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills, be analytical and have sound judgement.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

Job PurposeThe Vendor Relations Specialist will be responsible for sourcing & purchasing inventory for all stores across multiple states. This includes but is not limited to medicinal cannabis, recreational cannabis, and paraphernalia (both internationally sourced & local to each state).
Summary Objective
- Procure materials and equipment to successfully compete in all markets where we are present.
- Develop and implement procurement strategies to increase the profitability of the business.
- Manage the full cycle of buying (i.e. product innovation, costing negotiations, etc.)
- Identify and select suppliers for the company through a strategic bidding process.
Organizational RelationshipsDirectly Reports To: Back of House ManagerDirectly Supervises: Assistant Buyer, Point of Sale Specialist.
Key Responsibilities
- Negotiate the purchase of materials/equipment required by the company, ensuring they meet specifications, can be delivered promptly and is cost-effective.
- Closely monitor purchase orders to ensure orders meet the needs of all stores determined by standard operating procedures
- Evaluate competitive offers and present sourcing options that meet business requirements
- Maintain up-to-date lists of vendors and pricing arrangements ensuring competitive rates and quality products for each store
- Develop cost savings initiatives through various cost reduction options
- Monitor the performance of suppliers and products based on the required company standards and feedback provided by staff members and customers
- Maintain an awareness of inventory on hand and order based on standard operating procedures
- Maintain records and contact information for all grow sites & vendors organized on a state by state basis to ensure all negotiations are within compliance according to state and municipal law
- Proactively resolve supply problems, working to avoid supply chain interruptions
- Maintain close contact with all store managers ensuring needs are effectively communicated and addressed in a timely manner
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Motivate and train fellow purchasing team members to carry out their responsibilities based on standard operating procedures
- Provide direction and supervise the team, ensuring completion of various responsibilities to meet the overall company objective
- Ensure the company has accurate data needed for quality decision-making
- Coordinate regular meetings with team members
Skills, Knowledge and Ability Requirement
- Knowledge in standard procurement tools, including sourcing methodologies, commodity management, and most importantly negotiations
- High level of tact and the ability to respond to aggressive interpersonal interactions

Qualification/Work Experience

- At least 5 years leading procurement events, strategic sourcing, and supply chain activities
- Understanding of cannabis flower strains, concentrates, edibles, topicals, CBD, and paraphernalia
- A successful track record of buying experience to enhance the company brand
- Experience using various procurement technologies and tools
- Experience in retail buying, merchandising, planning, or allocation
- Preferred cannabis experience
- Valid driver’s license.
Special Demands
- Willingness to travel at short notice and travel long trips
- Occasionally requires walking, lifting, carrying, reaching, kneeling, pushing/pulling, bending, and crouching
- Handling conflict situations with vendors and store managers
- Able to sit at a desk for long periods of time

SUMMARY
The Buyer will negotiate with vendors for the purchase of all cannabis retail products sold by Embarc Alameda. They will perform strategic procurement activities across multiple categories of spend, search for better deals and find more profitable suppliers.
