Job Description
The Microbiology Lab Technician prepares and analyzes cannabis, hemp, CBD, and other samples using scientific and standard methodology in compliance with Green Scientific Labs policies and procedures.
Microbiology Lab Technician responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Preparing client samples by homogenizing, aliquoting, weighing, extractions, dilutions, QC spiking, labeling, transporting, and logging sample information and results into LIMS.
- Carrying out sample preparation techniques including, but not limited to, solid-liquid and liquid-liquid extraction, centrifugation, and filtration
- Performs routine microbiological lab tasks, including but not limited to:
- Homogenizing, weighing, incubating and preparing samples for microbiological analysis using qPCR or traditional methods.
- Preparing reagents for sample analysis
- Recording and reporting data and any unusual test occurrences to the supervisor
- Operate and monitor instrumentation (qPCR, liquid handlers, etc.)
- Perform assays such as foreign material inspection, water activity and moisture content assays.
- Complete all environmental monitoring recordings equipment and facility
- Checking batch records daily and reviewing any flags for samples/data that fall outside of accepted criteria
- Performing daily tasks including calibration verification of lab equipment, completing logs, etc.
- Responsible for general housekeeping (cleaning and organizing) in their work area, and basic equipment maintenance
- Responsible for performing job functions in compliance with Green Scientific Labs’ standards and procedures following GLPs in all areas of responsibility

DUTIES AND RESPONSABILITIES
Responsible for conducting qualitative and quantitative microbial analyses of cannabis products using molecular and cellular methodologies. Among several microorganisms, microbial testing includes Yeast and Mold, Salmonella, E. coli, Enterobacteriaceae and Aerobic bacteria.
· Perform laboratory procedures according laboratory’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), under the supervision of the team leader in accordance with ISO 17025 standards and state regulatory requirements
- Prepare samples using sterile technique to prevent contamination of products, growth medias and equipment when preforming cell culture procedures
- Accurately weight samples, pipetting, prepare dilutions to perform sterile microbial plating and Colony Forming Units (CFU) counting following methods described in SOPs
- Handle chemicals and microbial cell cultures safely using appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to prevent cross-contamination and exposure to hazardous material
- Accurate data (Weight, CFU counts) entry using Microsoft Excel sheets
- Laboratory maintenance including cleaning, equipment and scheduled environmental microbial testing
- Prepare DNA samples from cannabis products to perform Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) microbial testing
EDUCATION
Bachelor’s degree with major coursework in microbiology, molecular biology, biology or related field. Candidates with an associate degree and professional experience in a microbiology laboratory will be considered.
SKILLS
- Ability to work independently and coordinate activities with team members to effectively complete assigned tasks and deliver analytical results timely according to the team leader expectations.

Highgrade Labs of Arizona is seeking a full-time Microbiology Technician to assist in preparation and analysis of cannabis products for microbiological contaminants. This position reports to the Microbiologist and assists the Lab Director in receiving and preparing clients samples for testing according to approved SOPs and good microbiological laboratory practices (GMLP). This position will assist the lab in testing completed cannabis products (including flower, edibles, topicals and concentrates) for e. coli, salmonella, aspergillus, HLV, shelf life, and other tests as they become approved methods of analysis by the Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS).
Responsibilities
· Adhere to ISO17025 and ADHS requirements
· Learn or perform aseptic sampling and handling techniques according to GMLP
· Assist in the detection of microbiological contaminants using pathogen detection testing methods such as aerobic and coliform count plates, as well as quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR)
· Accurately record and maintain records containing sample data, analytical data, and logs of critical steps in sample preparation
· Prepare SOPs, protocols, scientific reports, and technical documents
· Perform preventative or corrective maintenance on microbiological instruments, pipettes, dispensettes, and workspaces

EDUCATION

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
We are looking for accountable and responsible individuals with a friendly demeanor to join the Landau Labs team. This position requires someone who is comfortable working with cannabis. The work includes but not limited to performing routine microbiology sample processing with straight adherence to the Laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)which requires knowledge of sterility, aseptic environments and basic knowledge in biology. Training will be provided by the Laboratory staff.
Technicians will learn to use electronic instruments, analytical scales, pipettes, vortex mixers, centrifuges, aseptic techniques, specialty printers, and photography equipment. Lab Technician will also assist with sample preparation in accordance with SOPs, sample weighting, homogenization, extraction and dilution as required by the SOPs, sample organization, sample disposal, and other tasks inside the laboratory. Technicians ensure cannabis samples are prepared and processed using appropriate methods, sterile techniques, and clean tools and protective equipment wear. They will be required to adhere strictly to Safety and Quality Assurance Protocols.
The start times of your 5-day workweek will vary with current workload and will include early mornings, and some late evenings, and possibly frequent Saturday work. Job Duties:
- Perform state required marijuana microbial testing on cannabis samples and other matrices
- Perform quality control testing for plant and extracts in a GLP environment
- Comply to quality management system and ensure compliance with ISO 17025
- Follow the standard operating procedures for testing cannabis
- Maintenance various equipment within the laboratory
- Maintain chain of custody

Salary: $40,000.00 to $45,000.00 /year
