Specific Responsibilities:
· Assist the Lead Microbiologist to perform various microbial analyses on customer samples such as Total Coliform, Total Yeast and Mold using manual plate count, film plate and qPCR methods following laboratory standard operating procedures (SOPs) and ensuring adherence to quality assurance and quality control requirements.
· Assist Lead Microbiologist to perform Quantitative Polymerase Chain Reaction (qPCR) methods to detect and quantify pathogens of interest in customer samples. This includes the ability to interpret qPCR data.
· Work in a high production lab with high sample volume and quick sample throughput.
· Assess data compliance and validity using established quality assurance and quality control protocol to ensure that all work is performed and documented properly and in compliance with internal procedures and regulatory requirements.
· Use the laboratory’s Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) to report results obtained from various analyses.
· Assist in sample preparation for other analytical tests in the lab and ensure that all the documentation is up to date.
Required Qualifications:
· An associate degree (or higher) from a four-year accredited college or university in biology, microbiology, or similar discipline.
· Demonstrated knowledge of various microbial analytical techniques including manual plate methods and advanced instrumentation, procedures, and QA/QC criteria used in an analytical and/or environmental laboratory.

What You will be doing
- Sample preparation and Analysis. Prepare and analyze samples for microbiological contamination, using classical microbiological techniques as well as molecular methods.

Job Summary:
Microbiology analysts are responsible for performing microbiological tests in cannabis products, analyzing data, and reporting results.
This position is for a Thursday through Monday shift.
- Thursdays, Fridays, and Mondays from 10am - 6:30pm.
- Saturdays and Sundays starting between 8am and 10am until between 4:30pm and 6:30pm
NOTE: The State of Colorado requires analysts to have a four-year degree in biology, chemistry or related field and one year of full-time experience in a regulated laboratory environment (e.g. ISO, CAP, CLIA, FDA, EPA, USDA). Candidates will need a Marijuana Enforcement Division (MED) occupational license prior to beginning work, which requires Colorado residency. Responsibilities:
- Following laboratory SOPs, ISO/IEC 17025 and State requirements
- Preparing and analyzing samples, including but not limited to, labeling, weighing, recording, pipetting, plating samples, extracting DNA, qPCR analysis, and microbial enumeration
- Using aseptic technique and working in a sterile environment
- Performing autoclave duties and general lab clean-up
- Maintaining and troubleshooting laboratory instrumentation
- Ensuring that all data generated meet quality control requirements
- Working with the laboratory team to meet reporting deadlines
- Consumables ordering, sample storage and disposal, cleaning and similar lab processes
- Other duties, as assigned (e.g. researching new technologies and methodologies to improve laboratory processes)
Qualifications:
- Must be a Colorado resident
- Must pass an extensive background security check with no felony convictions and must be able to obtain a Colorado Department of Revenue – MED support license prior to or at the time of hire
- Must have a BS/BA in microbiology, molecular biology or related field and at least 1 year of laboratory work experience in a regulated lab as an analyst is required, no exceptions
- 1-3 years of experience using aseptic technique experience required
- Experience performing high-throughput molecular and microbial assays such as qPCR and plating is a strong plus
- Experience in high-throughput and/or ISO/IEC 17025 accredited labs is a strong plus
- Able to work independently and part of a team in a fast-paced environment
- Able to interact professionally with colleagues
- Great written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent laboratory troubleshooting skills
