Do you have experience evaluating medical charts and clinical notes as a nurse? The Utah Department of Health seeks you as the Medical Cannabis Senior Registered Nurse to provide clinical expertise to the Center for Medical Cannabis to inform decisions regarding policies and protocols. You will work directly with providers and assist in the facilitation of medical cannabis provider registration and patient certification for patient cards. You will be responsible to have a working knowledge of medical terms, medical conditions, and current literature of the uses of medical cannabis and act as a resource for the Center. You will work with the Compassionate Use Board on exception requests from patients. In order to be successful in this position you will need to have a current RN license for Utah or be able to obtain one prior to starting. You also need to have experience making clinical recommendations and a working knowledge of standard office software.
Pursuant to Utah Code §§ 4-41-107 and 26-61a-111, this job includes duties that arise from or directly relate to the Utah Medical Cannabis Act. Duties may require conduct which is in violation of the criminal laws of the United States with respect to the manufacture, sale, or distribution of cannabis. As a condition of employment, candidates who are selected to fill this position will be required to sign an Acceptance of Duties Under the Medical Cannabis Act Acknowledgment Form. Principal Duties
As the Medical Cannabis Senior Registered Nurse, you will:
- Evaluate medical charts, clinical notes, and clinical evaluations included in petitions for Compassionate Use Board.
- Gather and organize research on medical cannabis treatment from various sources.
- Answer clinical questions about medical cannabis treatment from providers registered with the department
- Give presentations regarding medical cannabis laws and treatment to groups of providers and medical clinics.
- Evaluate medical cannabis continuing education coursework and approve new courses
- Assist with the inspections and investigations of medical cannabis pharmacies and medical providers to ensure compliance with state laws.
The Ideal Candidate
- Has experience evaluating medical charts, clinical notes and medical evaluations.
- Has strong written and oral communication skills.
- Can evaluate information against a set of standards.
- Has an understanding of medical cannabis laws across the US and in Utah.
- Has experience establishing and achieving program goals and objectives.
- Has experience delivering presentations online or in-person to groups.
- Has supervisory experience.

- The typical office setting for this job is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated. However, you may encounter some risks that are associated with any office setting, for example, the safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc.
