Enthalpy Analytical, is part of the larger organization, Montrose Environmental Group, is comprised of over 9 laboratories servicing air, water, soil, tobacco, cannabis, and toxicology testing. Our El Dorado Hills, CA facility is currently seeking an Analytical Chemist for our LC-MS/MS group. Analysts perform chemical measurements and other tasks to meet the expectations of our clients by efficiently generating defensible data on time.
As a key member of the laboratory team, this role will be responsible for a full range of activities including:
- Quantitative sample analysis
- Understand the purpose of the testing and determine if analyses do not meet minimum quality control and project criteria
- Maintaining organized records of analysis and equipment maintenance
- Instrument calibration and troubleshooting of equipment
- Work with Group Leader to improve quality and efficiency of analyses
- React to change productively and handle other essential tasks as assigned

Job Summary
We are looking for a full-time Chemistry Analyst with LC-MS experience and/or sample preparation experience for pesticides or mycotoxins testing to perform chemical tests, analyze and record test results. This position involves analyzing cannabis flower, concentrates, and infused products for pesticide and elemental impurities contamination.
This position requires being in the lab Mondays through Fridays from 10am – 6:30pm. During training (approximately first 1-2 months), the schedule will be Mondays through Fridays from 9am - 5:30pm.

NOTE: The State of Colorado requires analysts to have a four-year degree in chemistry, biochemistry or related field and one year of full-time experience in a testing laboratory. Responsibilities
- Comply with State, Local, OSHA, and ISO/IEC 17025 requirements.
- Follow laboratory SOPs to prepare and test analytical samples using traditional laboratory technologies such as ICP-MS and LC-MS.
- Accurately interpret and record data in an organized, legible, and consistent manner.
- Identify and document departures from the quality system and/or test procedures.
- Verify lab equipment before use to ensure they are within acceptable limits.
- Troubleshoot, clean and maintain laboratory equipment and supplies.
- Prepare and review test reports for clients within prescribed reporting deadlines.
- Prepare lab reagents and working standards and verify them before use.
- Perform general laboratory tasks such as inventory and consumables ordering, sample archival and disposal, cleaning and similar lab duties.
- Perform special projects, as assigned.
- Report concerns to the Lead Chemist.
Requirements
- BS/BA in chemistry, biochemistry, or related field and at least one year of experience in a testing lab is required by State regulation, no exceptions.

The Higher Commitment Analytical Laboratory is now hiring staff for our cannabis testing laboratory in Nevada City, California. We are looking for motivated, self-starting team players to work in an exciting and challenging analytical lab environment. Scientists with a background in an accredited, analytical lab and/or the cannabis industry are especially encouraged to apply. looking for candidates with hands on experience running LCMS (PerkinElmer Qsight 420). Our analysts and technicians are responsible for performing the analytical testing under the general supervision of the Laboratory Manager in accordance with our Quality System and SOPs. Analysts will be responsible for preparation, analysis of samples and data reporting for all testing offered by the laboratory. Analysts will also eventually be cross trained in HPLC, GC/MS, LC/MS, ICP/MS and PCR instrumentation as well. Technicians will be assigned sample preparation and general lab duties as needed.
Educational requirements: Analysts must have a Bachelor’s degree or higher in chemistry, biology, environmental or agricultural science, and at least 1 year of relevant analytical testing job experience. The Lab Analyst is responsible for performing, documenting, record checking, and troubleshooting quantitative assays on samples using techniques that vary from the use of standard laboratory equipment to highly modern and automated instrumentation.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Analyze samples consisting of a variety of matrices using traditional laboratory technologies including Shimadzu LC/MS
- Prepare samples for analysis.
- Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation.
- Ensure that all data generated meets quality control requirements.
- Research new technologies and methodologies to improve laboratory processes and techniques
- Collaborate with the laboratory team to meet reporting deadlines.
- Responsible for consumables ordering, sample storage and disposal, cleaning, and similar lab processes.
- Data Analysis, Interpretation, and Reporting
- Adhere to state and regulatory requirements
Education & Experience:
- Minimum BS/BA in Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Engineering or Environmental Sciences required.
- Knowledge of principles, terminology, practices, techniques, and instrumentation commonly used in a laboratory setting required.
- At least 2 years of LC/MS experience is required
- Food science and/or environmental experience is a plus.
- Exposure to the cannabis industry is a plus.

- Must pass Level 2 background check.

Lab Analyst Job Responsibilities:
- Interprets and evaluates data in terms of accuracy, precision, trends, and potential GMP impact and recommends appropriate corrective action where necessary.
- High productivity and the ability to multi-task coupled with a low error rate and attention to detail are critical characteristics of this position.
- Demonstrates flexibility/agility and engagement in a changing environment. The candidate is expected to display good laboratory technique to avoid cross-contamination or misidentification of samples.
- Able to comprehend and perform both routine and non-routine analyses from compendial and internal sources.
- May train others as skills and knowledge allow.
- Participates in laboratory investigations as required.
- Responsibility for writing routine assay protocols or conducting assay, process, or instrument qualifications.
- The successful candidate must also have demonstrated the ability to quickly learn new skills/techniques.
- set up test equipment in the lab to complete specific procedures
- perform complex chemical tests on materials and samples as requested or assigned.
- Perform sample prep
- Diligently log and analyze the data revealed by lab tests.
- manage inventory supplies by keeping track of materials used and ordering new items as needed.
- Perform maintenance on lab equipment by making calibrations, cleaning equipment, replacing parts, and otherwise keeping equipment functioning properly.
- Troubleshoot lab equipment to spot problems and report issues to the lab supervisor.
- Adhere to Safety Regulations and Protocol set by The BCC & CannaSafe, at all times in regard to safe handling of materials and wearing proper protective equipment.
- Keep laboratory and work areas clean and organized.

Skills and Qualifications
- AAS, BA/BS, or MS in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related science.
- A minimum of 2 years related experience in Quality Operations is preferred.
- Must have demonstrated proficiency in at least one high complexity technology (e.g. HPLC, uHPLC, GC, advanced spectroscopy, etc.) or at least 2 or more low to medium complexity technologies (e.g. TLC, titrations, wet chemistry/physical testing, water testing, etc.) as required by the business
- Analyst must not be Cannabis sensitive.
- Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and maintain a strong work ethic.
- Excellent office skills such as record keeping, filing and operating office equipment
- Effective oral and written communication including ability to communicate with individuals in differing roles including employees, customers, and vendors.
