Job Description:
The Division of Laboratory Services at the Utah Department of Agriculture and Food (UDAF) is seeking a qualified individual to fill a Microbiologist I position to support the Dairy, Meat, and Utah Medical Cannabis programs. The incumbant will work in an ISO 17025 accredited Dairy Testing Laboratory and help bring the meat and cannabis testing laboratories under the scope of the ISO accreditaion. The ideal applicant will have a bachelor's degree in microbiology and knowledge of FDA PMO. However, individuals with bachelor’s degrees in biology or chemistry and some microbiological laboratory experience are encouraged to apply. We are looking for an individual with outstanding integrity, is detail-oriented, and has exceptional interpersonal communication skills. In the dairy testing laboratory, pasteurized and raw milk and Grade A Dairy Products are tested to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations. Routine Analyses performed include testing for: total bacteria and coliforms, milk inhibitors and antibiotics, somatic cells, alkaline phosphatase, fat and protein levels in milk products, added water in milk, and dairy water testing. Meat and cannabis testing will primarily involve the use of PCR and plating techniques.

Duties may require conduct which is in violation of the criminal laws of the United States with respect to the manufacture, sale, or distribution of cannabis. Principal Duties As a Microbiologist I, you will:
- Work under the direction of senior laboratory staff.
- Conduct microbiological tests and evaluate results.
- Perform procedures to prepare the sample for analysis, including grinding, weighing, and diluting samples.
- Maintain detailed records of laboratory procedures and analysis results.
- Perform essential laboratory housekeeping functions, including temperature tracking, solution preparation, data entry, and cleaning.

- A bachelor’s degree in microbiology.
- Proficiency in performing basic calculations for preparing precise solution concentrations and sample dilutions.
- Advanced knowledge of common office software and data systems.
- The ability to effectively manage their own time and the time of others.
- The ability to follow established SOPs.
- Strong communication skills. Strong teamwork skills and the ability to work in a team environment.

This is a senior level job. Job Description:
The Medical Cannabis and Industrial Hemp Division at the Utah Department of Agriculture and Food (UDAF) are seeking a qualified individual to fill a Compliance Inspector position. The incumbent will function as a field representative of the division and will primarily be responsible for performing inspections of cannabis & hemp cultivation sites, processing facilities, and retail locations, to enforce regulations set by the State of Utah and provide technical leadership. Inspectors monitor agricultural policy and certify compliance with program regulations. Inspectors need to have outstanding integrity, extreme attention to detail, and exceptional interpersonal communication skills. This job will require you to understand and clearly communicate laws and rules to individuals participating in the legal sale of cannabis and hemp products in the State of Utah. This will include reviewing product labels of hemp and cannabis commodities for compliance and issuing a notice of violations of the law, a notice of violation, and/or stop-sale notices.
Inspectors will:
- Promote responsible agricultural production and commerce.
- Provides technical leadership in their area of specialty.

Principal Duties
As a Medical Cannabis Outreach Specialist, you will:
Manage outreach efforts to health care providers, medical clinics that offer medical cannabis recommendations, licensees (pharmacies, couriers), medical institutions, other stakeholders, and the public regarding Utah’s medical cannabis program.
- Draft and edit industry-wide bulletins and monthly updates.
- Deliver presentations to groups regarding medical cannabis regulation topics.
- Manage stakeholder outreach projects.
- Manage website and educational material design and content.
- Develop communications strategies that rely on best practices, evaluation data, and demographics.
- Maintain partnerships with various internal and external stakeholders.
The Ideal Candidate
- Has at least three years of experience in communications or stakeholder outreach.
- Superior writing and editing skills.
- Demonstrated experience with delivering in-person and virtual presentations to groups.
- Demonstrated experience with development of communications strategies.

The Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) presides over and conducts informal but often complex administrative hearings on behalf of the Department of Health and Human Services regarding Medicaid, the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) or the Primary Care Network (PCN) Program, as well as the center for Medical Cannabis, the Division of Licensing and Background Checks, the Division of Services for People with Disabilities, and other programs as needed.
Duties and responsibilities include:
- Conducts informal hearings.
- Evaluates evidence and provides recommended decisions based on state and federal law and regulations governing legal processes and Medicaid policy.
- Establishes witness lists, issues subpoenas, holds pre-hearing conferences, selects and utilizes subject matter experts.
- Questions witnesses and considers testimony and evidence that is presented. Issues written orders, makes rulings and/or adjudicates administrative cases.
- Makes final judgment with responsibility for decisions, including writing decisions and defending decision in a legal proceeding.
- Explains differences between hearing and civil procedures to litigants, attorneys and others. Resolves procedural issues such as requests for continuances.
- Provides consultation, makes recommendations, gives appropriate advice, and/or facilitates decisions.
- Provides other office support as needed.
This position requires a Juris Doctorate, at least 3 years of experience practicing law.
Preference may be given for the following:
- ALJ experience
- Department of Health or Department of Human Services experience
- Litigation experience
- Medicaid or CHIP experience

Job Description:
The Medical Cannabis and Industrial Hemp Division at the Utah Department of Agriculture and Food (UDAF) are seeking a qualified individual to fill a Compliance Inspector position. The incumbent will function as a field representative of the division and will primarily be responsible for performing inspections of cannabis & hemp cultivation sites, processing facilities, and retail locations, to enforce regulations set by the State of Utah and provide technical leadership. Inspectors monitor agricultural policy and certify compliance with program regulations. Inspectors need to have outstanding integrity, extreme attention to detail, and exceptional interpersonal communication skills. This job will require you to understand and clearly communicate laws and rules to individuals participating in the legal sale of cannabis and hemp products in the State of Utah. This will include reviewing product labels of hemp and cannabis commodities for compliance and issuing a notice of violations of the law, a notice of violation, and/or stop-sale notices.
Inspectors will:
- Promote responsible agricultural production and commerce.
- Provides technical leadership in their area of specialty.
- Comply with the requirements of due process.
- Prepare compliance violations.
- Implement administrative controls. Federal and State licensure may be required for each program.
