Cannabis Production Assistant
Nectar LLC is a WA State licensed I502 adult use cannabis production company in Concrete, WA. We produce premium quality, pesticide free cannabis with a small staff where every team member can have a significant impact on our success. Our work environment is relaxed and casual, but we expect all team members to be self-motivated, efficient and hard working.
We are looking for a driven individual to assist the head grower with production duties. Previous cannabis growing experience is not necessary but prior horticultural experience may be helpful and may lead to faster advancement, acquisition of greater responsibility and higher pay. Basic knowledge of plant anatomy, plant thinning and shaping, cloning, watering, environmental requirements, insect pest and disease scouting, monitoring facility equipment and state compliance issues are keys to success. In some cases, previous experience in these areas can be a setback so we are willing to train the right person whether experienced or not in cannabis growing. What's most important is a positive attitude, strong work ethic, consistency, attention to detail, and a willingness to work hard and learn our processes. If you have prior cannabis growing experience, come with an open mind to learn a new process. We probably do things differently than you’re used to.
We have a very small staff in the garden and the head grower is highly experienced in efficient cultivation techniques. This creates a unique and valuable opportunity for the candidate to learn one on one with the head grower. You won't be just one of many laborers in the garden. You will be a key person performing all duties required to successfully grow premium quality cannabis in a commercial facility. This is an excellent steppingstone for those looking to take on a larger role in the future but don't have sufficient experience to do it now. If you are a newly graduated college horticulture student looking for a great learning environment to gain essential skills in this industry, this is a great opportunity for you. Likewise, if you don't have much experience or education in the field but you're highly motivated, detail oriented and willing to work hard and learn, this is a great opportunity.
Typical daily tasks include:
- Caring for plants in all stages of growth
- Scouting for disease and insect problems
- Monitoring and adjusting facility systems to ensure everything is operating correctly
- Preparation of nutrient solution for plants
- Leaf and stem thinning / plant shaping
- Maintaining a clean facility
- Cleaning growing rooms between crops or otherwise as necessary
- Harvesting and hanging finished crops
- Shaping mother plants for excellent cuttings
- Taking cuttings to start new plants according to our production schedule
- Shifting up plants through various stages of growth
- Moving plants from the vegetative room to the flowering rooms
- Setting up drip irrigation and trellis on new crops
- Cleaning, cleaning and more cleaning
The successful candidate will start off working Monday through Friday 9:00 to 5:00 and will transition into covering alternating weekends once your capability of running the facility is proven. Covering alternating weekends will be required. Weekend work consists of checking on the garden for a short period of time in the morning and in the evening and need not be a full workday. We just need to hand water the youngest plants in early vegetative growth and check on the facility systems.
Growing cannabis is rewarding, interesting and challenging but not always glamorous. There are many hours of tedious tasks which includes plenty of scrubbing and washing, leaf picking, plant thinning, and other such general labor tasks. The successful applicant will be handling all tasks from the scrubbing of floors to running the facility eventually. The ability to do the most menial tasks with enthusiasm and a positive attitude is essential. You may also be needed in other areas of the business from time to time helping with trimming, packaging, order fulfillment, property maintenance, building projects etc. The successful candidate will demonstrate a willingness to do any work necessary. Employees can listen to music, books, podcasts etc while working so it can be quite enjoyable.
*Please note: Our vegetative growing areas are vertically stacked up to 12 feet so applicants must be physically capable and comfortable working safely high up on ladders for short periods of time. If you have any medical or physical conditions that would lead to ladder work being unsafe for you then this job is not a good option.
Job Requirements
- 21+ years of age
- Able to pass a background check if required with a clear criminal record
- Have reliable transportation to Concrete, WA daily
- Be punctual and have consistent attendance
- Be physically fit and able to lift 50 lbs and do physical work all day on concrete floors
- Able to work up on ladders comfortably
- Ability to work sitting, crouching or standing performing repetitive tasks for multiple hours
- Attention to detail and strong ability to follow directions
- Have basic knowledge of weights and measures
- Have basic computer skills and ability to use Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets
- Work well in a team environment and treat coworkers with professionalism and courtesy
- Be self motivated, efficient and capable of working alone for long periods of time
- Maintain good personal hygiene
- Comply with no substance use policy at work including cannabis
- Ability and willingness to learn and use our growing system despite your previous experience or expertise
