POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Cultivation Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of Genesis Farms’ licensed medical cannabis cultivation facility in Box Elder, SD. All managers are expected to be fully prepared to operate the facility in a professional manner and in accordance with applicable laws and regulations, and in adherence to company standards. The Cultivation Manager is responsible for planning and overseeing cultivation operations, including all phases of plant growth, harvest, and post-harvest processes. In addition, the Cultivation Manager is responsible for accurate inventory tracking and record keeping, facilitating required lab tests and other quality controls, staff training/team management, facility/equipment maintenance and other responsibilities critical to the successful operation of the cultivation facility. The Cultivation Manager’s success is measured by the facility’s performance, particularly by optimizing plant health and maximizing crop output potential.
IDEAL CANDIDATE:
The ideal candidate has experience managing licensed cannabis cultivation operations on a large scale. The Cultivation Manager must be keen, agile, and responsive to the needs of the company at all times and must be proactive about achieving results and advancing the mission of the organization. This position requires straightforward and effective communication, strong leadership and interpersonal skills, critical thinking, problem-solving, and capability to perform work duties under intense pressure.
The ideal candidate possesses knowledge and experience in the following areas:
· Cannabis plant science;
· Cannabis cultivation methodologies and best practices;
· Integrated Pest Management;
· Risk mitigation and prevention of plant contamination/deuteriation/deficiency etc.;
· Systems of scale, such as automated fertigation, building management, security/technology etc.;
· Team management and organizational strategy;
· Product quality and consistency;
· Safe handling of hazardous materials;
· Clean room standards;
· Regulated cannabis compliance; and
· Lean manufacturing principles.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND SKILLS:
· Minimum two years management experience in licensed cannabis operations;
· Professional/industrial agriculture, horticulture, or similar experience;
· Optional college degree or technical training certification;
· Excellent communication skills and attention to detail;
· Effective time-management and ability to meet strict deadlines;
· Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing, and challenging environment;
· Proficiency in windows-based software and inventory tracking software (ideally METRC);
· Ability to quickly learn and implement new standards, SOPs, and policies;
· Ability to create productions plans/schedules, and report on performance;
· Ability to stand, sit, kneel, and lift up to 50 lbs. for extended periods of time.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Ensure optimum plant health and maximize crop output potential;
· Plan the cultivation schedule, on an annual, quarterly, monthly, weekly, and daily basis;
· Lead and organize the team through training, assigning duties, and supervising work;
· Work hands-on with plants alongside staff: including pruning, defoliating, applying pesticides, harvesting, and post-harvest processing, including drying/curing, counting/weighing, transplanting/transferring, packaging/labeling, handling/storing etc.;
· Monitor and report on Key Performance Indicators (KPI), respond immediately to deficiencies and implement corrective actions if and when necessary;
· Oversee seed-to-sale inventory tracking and proper use of METRC;
· Deliver timely, specific, and actionable feedback to employees;
· Enter data on a daily basis and update all required operational records;
· Promote a productive and positive team culture; and
· Meet performance goals set by executive management.
