The food technologist is responsible for development of new products and processes to support Sunderstorm鈥檚 business objectives. Projects will primarily focus on confectionery medium of delivery and will range from gummy to chocolate.

The senior food technologist is responsible for leading development of new confectionery products and demonstrates a profound understanding of both chemical and physical properties of all ingredients. The incumbent will also act as a conduit to cross functional teams including but not limited to marketing, sales, quality, procurement and manufacturing.

- Lead primary development of new projects, both from customer and marketing requests

- Assist clients in developing and implementing food safety certification programs such as, Safe Quality Food (SQF), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP鈥檚), Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), etc.
- Develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) for GMP Certification as well as writing modules for SQF-related projects.
- Provide food safety and food science training to the clients as needed via Teams/Zoom meeting, conference calls, or in person training.
- Develop FSMA food safety plans as per client specifics.
- Apply food science knowledge to provide guidance to food companies on way to process, package, preserve, store, and distribute food.
- Lead communications and meetings with clients on matters of food science and food safety, as needed.
- Lead communications with the client鈥檚 third-party service providers such as external laboratories, chemical suppliers, test equipment manufacturer, etc.
- Lead efforts to set up internal labs as needed within client facilities.
- Conduct GAP audits for clients using RefineUS guidance documents.
- Provide on-site support including on-site audit and mock audit support as needed, for RefineUS clients.
- The need to gain certifications and/or qualifications in various areas in the industry, including the possibility of areas including Organic, seafood HACCP, agriculture-related, cannabis related, etc. may exist. Training and certification will approved and then paid for by RefineUS.
- Conduct research on topics related to food safety, microbiology, biochemistry, food spoilage, etc. to assist clients on special food science projects such as product shelf-life extension.
- Outreach to food companies to introduce RefineUS鈥檚 food safety services.
