The technician role performs various technical tasks related to the extraction, refinement, and separation of cannabis essential oils for use in various cannabis-based products. Job Description
The Distillation Technician will be responsible for safe and efficient operation of sophisticated equipment and conversion of the cannabis biomass into high quality medical cannabis products for ingestion, inhalation, or topical application.
The Distillation Technician follows established procedures to refine crude cannabis oils to insure purity of the final product. The Distillation Technician runs post-processing equipment like rotary evaporators, vacuum ovens, wiped film distillation units and more. This position requires to perform distillation, decarboxylation, filtration, and maintenance of post-processing equipment.
Duties and responsibilities or (Essential Functions)
- Carry out all assigned duties including but not limited to extraction, extract processing, product formulation, filling and other manufacturing responsibilities in a safe and efficient manner that also complies with State Regulations, FDA cGMP's, OSHA regulations, PharmaCann SOP's, and all applicable laboratory procedures.
- Maintain the inventory responsibility of all raw materials, finished products, and by-products of the cannabis manufacturing process.
- Maintain the proactive behavior around the manufacturing facility.
- Develop expertise in extraction, refining, testing and formulating methods of various cannabis compounds.
- Operate, clean, and maintain laboratory equipment. Perform corrective and preventative maintenance on associated equipment as required.
- Package of PharmaCann's broad medical cannabis product line as needed.
- Ensure compliance and accuracy involving all product tracking, product security, and product movement procedures.
- Follow appropriate control measures to prevent mixing of dissimilar production components while following Current Good Manufacturing Practices.

The Hydrocarbon Extraction & Distillation Technician will be responsible for day to day extraction & distillation processing to create full spectrum. - Log and track all pertinent information for each post processing responsibility. Must be able to follow written direction and maintain a laboratory notebook.
- Use METRC and Leaf Logix Cannabis inventory tracking software to be able to create and modify tags for a variety of products and purposes.
- Assist with lotion and body oil preparation.
- Assist with test sample preparation for analytical analysis.
- Exercise extreme caution and attention to detail around the scientific glassware to prevent breakage.
- Follow all safety protocols put into place for machine operation by following SOP's to meet Good Laboratory Practices and Good Manufacturing Practices.
- Understand and meet daily goals.
- Perform other official duties as assigned, such as labeling and packaging of medical cannabis oil and concentrates.
Job Qualifications
- Prior laboratory experience preferred.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Thorough understanding of state and local medical cannabis laws and ability to comprehend complex legislation and apply implications.
- Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
- Familiar with Office 365 and ability to learn and apply new software programs.
- Ability to solve problems effectively.

As a Distillation Technician, you will work closely with the Production Manager and the processing team to refine hemp oil into distilled and isolated products in our labs. Responsibilities include continuous operation and monitor of state-of-the-art equipment used to separate and purify active compounds and use of our detailed tracking solution procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Operate equipment at extreme temperatures and follow parameters on a precision scale.
- Load and unload hot and volatile liquids utilizing proper hazmat clothing and safety methods.
- Monitor potentially volatile reactions as well as safely store and/or transport materials to and from specialized production equipment.
- Assist Production Manager in all aspects of evaporation and separation process.
- Perform duties necessary for continuous evaporation operations.
- Troubleshoot down equipment and perform equipment maintenance.
- Maintain an organized and clean production environment.
- Follow Company standard operating procedures (SOPs) to produce high quality active ingredients.
- Understand and follow all safety protocols.
- Monitor system operations and perform tests as required.
- Record data for all procedures using computer systems.
- Maintain inventory records of supplies, materials, and equipment, and prepare requisitions as needed.
- Storing supplies and equipment, disposal of waste according to guidelines, and keeping production areas, store rooms and working areas immaculate.
Qualifications:
- Complete and pass rigorous GMP compliance training and continuing education of the same.
- Familiarity with, evaporation, separations, isolations, and fractionalization.
- Understanding of solvent and solvent free extraction including safe handling methods for hazardous materials.
- Moderate lifting and carrying (25-75 lbs); heavier weights with assistance.
- Must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time. May require bending and climbing and work on elevated platforms (not more than 5 feet high).
- Repetitive motions and understanding of production equipment and control panel readouts.
- Working at a fast pace, subject to many interruptions and both physical and mental demands.
- Honest, trustworthy, articulate and must possess excellent communication skills.
- Ability to follow directions. Stay current with up-to-date industry standards.
- Preparing equipment and plant materials for extraction.
- Self-starter/self-motivated. Has the ability to work in a hands-on environment and work well independently.
- Punctual and reliable with team atmosphere enthusiasm and work ethic.
Education/Experience:
- Degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Analytical Chemistry or related Chemistry field.
- Prior GMP production experience.
- Previous experience in laboratory operations a plus.
Technological Skills:
- Ability to use standard office equipment, computer equipment and software including word processing, database management, spreadsheet applications and email.
- Ability to follow directions in utilization of automated equipment and systems.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Complete familiarity with scientific principles and production terminology.
- Read and follow manuals for Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Basic math skills.
- Familiarity with OSHA guidelines for dealing with hazardous chemicals.
- Understanding and adhering to applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations as they pertain to the cannabis industry, safety regulations, local municipal codes and organizational rules, regulations, directives and standard operating procedures.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all employees.
