About This Role
We are seeking a professional Director of Extraction and Formulation in a highly impactful role to lead the vision, strategy and execution of extract product development for the company’s entry into the
Oklahoma medical cannabis market.
The Director will facilitate and supervise the initial establishment of commercial extraction production processes and product offerings while collaborating with Executive team on all executive decisions pertaining to the product planning and future product development strategies of the company.

Director of Extraction and Formulation
The Director of Extraction and Formulation will facilitate and supervise the process of commercial extraction production for the company. The Director is responsible for gathering critical data to evaluate each process and present weekly productivity reports to Executive team. The Director will be required to maintain compliance with state guidelines and manage operations in accordance with company standards to meet production goals. This position is responsible for the development of product formulas and Standard Operating Procedures for production and operation of equipment (SOPs) and for integrating the proprietary processing techniques they develop to maintain a competitive advantage amongst cannabis processors around the country.
The ideal candidate will have experience in process chemistry design, process related research and development, laboratory equipment troubleshooting, analytical chemistry, laboratory design, with a robust understanding of terpene and cannabinoid properties and behavior, influence, preservation techniques and separation chemistry. Similar experience in other highly regulated industries will also be considered.
Production Responsibilities

The Director of Extraction/Master Extractor is responsible to direct and lead extraction operations in a large-scale regulated, medical cannabis processing lab. This includes extracting cannabis through various methods and post-extraction processing to ensure quality oil and terpene supply for manufacturing product. The Director of Extraction/Master Extractor must possess a broad knowledge of systems integration, workplace optimization, compliance disciplines, employee allocation, and laboratory operations. This position will oversee production, quality assurance, operations, and a team including entry, journey, and advanced level experience.
Key responsibilities of this position will include, but are not limited to:
- Develop, plan, organize, and maintain department production schedules while monitoring quality control to ensure high quality, repeatable, and accurate results.
- Design lab procedures to optimize production, costs, yield, and operational efficiency while reducing risk.
- While ensuring strict adherence to all PA Department of Health regulations, standards, and processes, develop new and improved products and formulations to position PAOFW products as a leader within the market.
- Coordinate with operations personnel to identify and address market opportunities and operational weaknesses.
- Identify and implement new technologies and methodologies to improve workflow, product development, and data quality.
- Partner with others, monitoring quality control, to ensure high quality, accurate results.
- Investigate all adverse events, errors, and complaints; document investigations and determine root cause.
- Ensure continuous development of the team’s knowledge relating to lab procedures and extraction methods including, but not limited to: quality control, safety awareness, knowledge of hazards, OSHA, Food Safety, and PAOFW policies and standard operating procedures.
- Ensure strict compliance, including safety, environmental, and document control requirements.
- Develop, maintain, and implement standard operating procedures (SOP’s) for all products and techniques developed; support the development, modification, and/or changes to company SOP’s.
- Periodically conduct audits during processing to ensure staff compliance with SOP’s.

- Manage and maintain the highest level of health, sanitation, and safety regulations as it relates to the processing, handling, and storage of all medical marijuana products.

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

Our client, a vertically integrated operator in the cannabis industry is seeking a Director Processing to lead their team in Scranton, PA. The Director will ensure that the department and company are compliant with all local and state laws as well as company policies and procedures.
The Director will oversee all processing activities which will involve everything post harvest production of cannabis flower through primary packaging as well as secondary packaging for flower and infused products. They will also be responsible for leading and developing the team responsible for the processing and packaging duties in order to increase efficiency and maximize throughput while maintaining quality standards.

EDUCATION EXPERIENCE
- Bachelors degree in Management or any related field required; MBA preferred
- 5+ years of management experience in field-based project management for a company with multi-site presence
- Strong knowledge and experience of post-harvest processing of agricultural/plant material on a commercial scale
- Business acumen with broad understanding of the business model, science, facilities, engineering, process development, supply chain, quality, compliance, regulatory, and information technology expectations for cell therapy.

- Manage team using ethanol extraction, ethanol recovery, butane extraction, filtration, decarboxylation, degas, post processing and distillation equipment.
- Drive scaling of all process operations and labor to support forecasted demand planning and on time delivery of formulated oil.
- Drive process innovation and improvements to reduce operational costs, and improve reliability, performance, and quality.
- Participate in new product development processes and manage associated extraction and secondary processing R&D projects.
- Identify, define, and validate disruptive technical developments and file for associated patents.

POSITION SUMMARY Responsible for managing the daily operations of manufacturing activities of the Company. CORE JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Employee Support and Management
- Responsible for managing extraction and lab/processing team with strategic direction, oversight of system-wide inventory control and development, and efficient manufacturing processes.
- Serves as a role model and resource for extraction and lab / processing team related to products and services, policies and procedures, industry news, and changes in regulations.
- Trains and supervises all extraction staff and evaluates staff performance.
- Plans workload distribution, delegates tasks and create staff schedules to meet Company inventory management goals
- Oversees all extraction tasks and processes, ensures proper documentation of all applicable activities in accordance with the Virginia regulations and standards set by the Virginia Board of Pharmacy and maintain inventory via RFID tracking for all cannabis seeds, plants, products and extracts to prevent diversion.

- Responsible for extraction team compliance of all applicable company policies, procedures, and patient protocols. Manage compliance with all current government regulations and professional standards respecting patient care.
- Evaluate quality control and quality assurance statistics and modifies SOPs, as needed.
Inventory Management and Control
- Leads continuous improvement in all and extraction and lab/processing protocols to maximize efficiencies to produce the most affordable product for patients.
Internal Product Analytic Testing
- Be responsible for daily duties related to analytic testing process of medical cannabis-based products.
- Management duties and responsibilities of additional chemists/technicians as company grows.
Independent Lab Testing
- Coordinate independent lab testing of all company oils and products as required by state regulation and Company procedures.
- Continuous improvement with independent lab testing companies for efficiencies and processes.
Reporting and Documentation
- Maintain appropriate records related to quality control and testing procedures and results.
SKILLS REQUIRED
Understanding of manufacturing processes in clean environments. Understanding of pharmaceutical compounding, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and clean lab environments. Understanding of Analytic Methods and Analytical Instruments.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Masters or higher-level degree in Chemical Science or four years of additional experience.
- Experience with analytical processes, botanical or biologic processes preferred.
- Familiarity with quality control, policy and procedure and documentation.
- Demonstrated experience building and managing cGMP manufacturing at scale.

Summary: The Extraction/Lab manages the production of high-quality cannabis extracts along with maintaining laboratory and equipment, recording and entering data, and associated tasks. The Director is responsible for the consistent, sanitary and safe production of cannabis extracts utilizing company policies to successfully uphold quality and consistency of all products produced.
Responsibilities:
- Lead formulation development and processes for new products, strains, styles and types of cannabis including reformulation of existing products for improvements.
- Manage team performing extraction, solvent recovery, distillation and packaging for orders using the following techniques: pulverizing plant material, CO2 and ethanol plant extraction, liquid-liquid separation, solvent recovery, distillation, formulation, packaging, and others.
- Responsible for all facets of the laboratory, including quality assurance, equipment and materials inventory, budgets and compliance with state and local guidelines and regulations.
- Plan and manage production schedules that effectively leverage capacity, labor and materials to meet volume, cost and quality goals.

- Manage the receiving and recording of internal and external lab test results. Maintain up to date records of all lab test results.
- Communicate internal and external lab test results to Operations Manager and Production Manager.
- Track product sample inventories for future testing.
- Maintain detailed records of lot and batch numbers, weights, and all relevant information of extraction lab.

Employment Standards:
Education – Bachelor’s Degree in chemistry, food science, biology, business, management, operations, engineering, or related field is required.
Certifications – Will be required to complete ServSafe or a similar food safety training course.
Experience – 5+ years related progressive experience in a laboratory setting. Licensed cannabis manufacturing experience preferred but not necessary.

Shifts will be 6AM-3PM,10AM-7PM, 3PM-midnight, allowing the supervisor to overlap both shifts. Quarterly bonuses will be paid based on hitting production goals and sales of such product.

On the contingency of receiving an Infusion/Craft Grow license for recreational cannabis in the state of Illinois, we are looking for a Director of Extraction/Chief Infuser to include in our companies plans moving forward.
**Our Director of Extraction will: **Oversee all cannabis extraction and refinement operations. This includes input on facility design, laboratory setup, standard operating procedure development, regulatory compliance, hiring, training and personnel management. Responsible for ensuring all cannabis extracted products are produced safely, efficiently, and consistently.
**As Chief Infuser, your responsibilities will include: *** Setting standards to create a consistent infused product* Developing new products that relate to the industry trends* Training employees on processes* Adhering to state law and industry wide practices and regulations* Optimize product offerings for a high quality product that is in demand in the consumer cannabis market
**Preferred Backgrounds: **Our goal is to find someone that hasn't necessarily been previously involved in the cannabis industry, but has knowledge and experience that can be applied to this growing industry. While cannabis industry experience is not necessary, if you have such experience it certainly helps. Manager/Director of Extraction/Processing (Cannabis)

Job Description:
The Manager/Director of Extraction is responsible for leading and maintaining extraction and processing for cannabis-derived products. This position involves leading and implementing production-scale extraction processes. The main processes to be developed and/or optimized are distillation, crystallization and chromatographic purification of cannabinoids.
Responsibilities:
- Work with the team to establish a strategic plan for their cannabis program and target deadlines
- Assist in design layouts of the facility and procuring additional extraction/processing equipment for distillation, crystallization, purification processes with input from senior management
- Deliver best practices for production-scale purification processes
- Write protocols and validations for equipment and manufacturing process
- Write SOPs and qualification documents related to the manufacturing process
- Coach and mentor production staff in operating production-scale purification equipment
- Ensure team adheres to Company policies, safety standards, SOPs and current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP)
- Develop cannabis concentrates and other consumer-facing cannabis products derived from cannabis extraction and processing
Requirements:
- Bachelors or Master’s of Science degree in a scientific area
- Ph.D. in organic chemistry or biochemistry would be considered an asset but not mandatory
- Publications and/or patents in the fields of organic chemistry or biochemistry would be considered assets but not mandatory
- Hands-on experience in cannabis extraction with CO2 is required
- Hands-on experience in cannabis extraction with ethanol and hydrocarbon is a plus
- Experience developing and optimizing crystallization methods
- Experienced practicing in an industrial chemistry environment
- Hands-on experience with cannabinoid purification
- Hands-on experience with chemical synthesis would be considered an asset
- Ability to prioritize multiple project deliverables with high attention to detail
- Proven ability to plan and organize process/product development projects
- Experience launching cannabis-derived consumer-facing products/brands in the concentrate/edible category is a plus
- Impeccable verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient using MS Office software
- Familiarity with FDA and cGMP regulations is a plus
- Experience working in a cGMP or ISO regulated work environment is a plus

The Director of Extraction and Processing performs extraction techniques on cannabis plants and directs manufacturing of medical cannabis products. The Director of Extraction and Processing is responsible for ensuring the quality of all products. The Director of Extraction is responsible for coordinating internal medical cannabis testing during the curing phase, production phase, and testing phase.
Skills and Qualifications. Master’s degree in chemistry required. PhD preferred. POSITION SUMMARY Responsible for managing the daily operations of manufacturing activities of the Company. Responsible for managing the extraction and processing teams in accordance with Virginia rules and regulations and standards set by Dharma Pharmaceuticals, LLC. Provides support for all manufacturing employees, including scheduling, training, policy and procedure updates, industry news, and product information. Overall responsibility and accountability for the extraction and lab processing of safe, high quality cannabis plants and cannabis-based products.
CORE JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Employee Support and Management
- Responsible for managing extraction and lab/processing team with strategic direction, oversight of system-wide inventory control and development, and efficient manufacturing processes.
- Serves as a role model and resource for extraction and lab / processing team related to products and services, policies and procedures, industry news, and changes in regulations.
- Trains and supervises all extraction staff and evaluates staff performance.
- Plans workload distribution, delegates tasks and create staff schedules to meet Company inventory management goals
- Oversees all extraction tasks and processes, ensures proper documentation of all applicable activities in accordance with the Virginia regulations and standards set by the Virginia Board of Pharmacy and maintain inventory via RFID tracking for all cannabis seeds, plants, products and extracts to prevent diversion.
- Responds to all extraction and lab/processing staff and consultants’ questions, concerns, or suggestions and takes action when necessary to resolve conflicts.
- Responsible for delegating tasks to extraction and lab/processing staff and consultants to maintain a compliant and clean cultivation facility.
- Coordinates with the executive team to ensure accurate information is communicated to the extraction and lab/processing staff.
Extraction
- Manage all extraction activities of the Company for all products for patients.
- Responsible for quality control of all products produced and distributed by the Company.
Compliance / Quality Assurance
- Assist with development and implementation of quality improvement programs to meet the Company standards.
- Responsible for extraction team compliance of all applicable company policies, procedures, and patient protocols. Manage compliance with all current government regulations and professional standards respecting patient care.
- Evaluate quality control and quality assurance statistics and modifies SOPs, as needed.
Inventory Management and Control
- Leads continuous improvement in all and extraction and lab/processing protocols to maximize efficiencies to produce the most affordable product for patients.
Internal Product Analytic Testing
- Be responsible for daily duties related to analytic testing process of medical cannabis-based products.
- Management duties and responsibilities of additional chemists/technicians as company grows.
Independent Lab Testing
- Coordinate independent lab testing of all company oils and products as required by state regulation and Company procedures.
- Continuous improvement with independent lab testing companies for efficiencies and processes.
Reporting and Documentation
- Maintain appropriate records related to quality control and testing procedures and results.
SKILLS REQUIRED
Understanding of manufacturing processes in clean environments. Understanding of pharmaceutical compounding, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and clean lab environments. Understanding of Analytic Methods and Analytical Instruments.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Masters or higher-level degree in Chemical Science or four years of additional experience.
- Experience with analytical processes, botanical or biologic processes preferred.
- Familiarity with quality control, policy and procedure and documentation.
- Demonstrated experience building and managing cGMP manufacturing at scale.
- Awareness of high-tech pharmaceutical manufacturing or pharmaceutical processing.
- 2+ years’ experience in related manufacturing leadership role.
- The ability to perform repetitive tasks for long periods of time (i.e., lifting samples, moving lab equipment, and regular inventory).
- Physical requirements include standing, bending, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
