BASIC FUNCTION:
The EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT will work directly for the CEO of Veda Scientific, a
Cannabis Testing Laboratory located in Lompoc, CA. This position includes working on-site at the Laboratory in Lompoc, CA, working at the home office in Santa Barbara,
CA and some intermittent regional travel for business development, and client service calls and general business-related errands. The role will be to complete tasks and projects related to the areas of finance, sales and marketing, and business development in a high paced multi-faceted environment. This is a full-time position.
The schedule and location of work will be coordinated weekly depending on the business needs. Availability Monday thru Saturday is preferred.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITY:
- Works under general supervision, expected to perform job functions independently
- Manage the Calendar and commitments of the CEO o Schedule meetings, set reminders o coordinate, the calendar of the CEO with other business divisions of Veda
Scientific
- Research and summarize findings for topics related to the cannabis industry.
Topics range from equipment, and science related topics to marketing and regulatory topics
- Customer account management o Update and Maintain Salesforce, our CRM o Manage Customer Contract documentation to meet compliance regulations o Manage Customer Satisfaction annual survey
- Customer Order Management using Qbench our LIMs system o Enter and confirm customer orders o Monitor customer order status
o Customer invoice processing
- General Administrative Support o Mail correspondence o Business account liaison o Accounting liaison
- Maintains Driver Safety Certification
- Attend and participate in group and project meetings
- Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities
- Performs other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
Education
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Courses and or certificates demonstrating competencies in organizational management and business management accepted
Experience
- 2 years’ experience developing skills to support the position responsibilities

BASIC FUNCTION
The Laboratory Technician assists the Chemist and/or Microbiologist in performing chemical testing procedures and microbiological tests. Carries out sampling, weighing, pipetting, operation of lab equipment, recordkeeping, and analyzing data in cooperation with the scientific team. Must be able to drive to sampling sites, perform unbiased sampling procedures, follow laboratory protocols, and assist with the housekeeping operations of the laboratory. Supports laboratory staff by maintaining glassware, logs and record books, troubleshooting and resolving problems, and helping with special projects.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPECTATIONS
a. Maintain glassware by picking-up, cleaning, washing, sterilizing, storing and distributing
b. Keep laboratory supplies ready by inventorying stock, requesting orders, and verifying receipt
c. Perform laboratory tests including pre- and post-analytic phases
d. Produce accurate and reliable data, as well as interpret results
e. Follow prescribed methodologies in carrying out routine tasks
f. Research relevant topics and gather scientific information
g. Adhere to correct procedures, policies and health/safety guidelines
h. Document all activities, record results and input/retrieve data

QUALIFICATIONS
a. Education – College-level laboratory courses in Chemistry and/or Microbiology with a B grade or higher. B.S. or B.A. degree in Chemistry Microbiology or related field would be an additional qualification preferred.
b. Experience – Hands-on experience in a research, testing or clinical laboratory is desired. Knowledge in a range of analytical techniques, experience with plant material and extraction procedures, and familiarity with laboratory equipment and software (Excel, ChemStation, Google Sheets) are preferred.
c. Skills – Lab technicians provide technical support to enable the laboratory to function effectively, while adhering to correct procedures, as well as health and safety guidelines. We value both research and transferable skills including:

SAMPLING TECHNICIAN
JOB DESCRIPTION
BASIC FUNCTION:
The Sampling Technician will collect representative samples from a batch of cannabis plant materials and manufactured products according to state-approved standard operating procedures while documenting the activity by filling up the required forms. Must be able to drive to sampling sites, perform unbiased sampling procedures, follow laboratory protocols, and assist with the housekeeping operations of the laboratory.
Supports laboratory staff by maintaining glassware, logs and record books, inventory, and helping with special projects. Sampling technicians ensure that representative samples are taken at customer sites without compromising their cleanliness and integrity, which are then delivered to the laboratory securely and with proper documentation. They will also be asked to help in the laboratory.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITY:
- Works under general supervision, expected to perform job functions independently
- Collects samples as product or raw materials while maintaining their integrity.
- Follow standard operating procedures for sampling and be competent in executing steps of the sampling plan for acquiring samples for cannabis testing
- Count, measure, weigh and label samples as needed and place in approved sampling containers
- Ensures sample containers and all related paperwork are labeled with identifying data, location of sample, date, time of collection, and other information required on the forms
- Ensure sampling equipment and tools are clean and in a workable condition, making any necessary orders and adjustments to sampling supplies as needed
- Delivers samples to the laboratory for analysis
- Report any sampling irregularities to laboratory director and management
- May also have sample preparation or lab responsibilities, as required by business needs
- May assist laboratory analysts as required
- Maintains a safe working environment

BASIC FUNCTION
The Scientific Director is primarily responsible for overseeing the entire operation of the laboratory, which includes its staff, equipment, instruments, supplies and samples received. The Scientific Director is additionally responsible for administering the basic management functions of planning, organizing, leading and controlling to assist the President in the successful and efficient attainment of company goals while working alongside the Chief Science Officer (CSO). The Scientific Director is expected to perform bench duties whenever required to ensure that daily service goals are achieved.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITY
- Works with the CSO and Technical Lab Director to evaluate equipment, develop testing methods and write standard operating procedures, methods development and validation procedures to meet regulatory requirements (CA-BCC) and best industry practices (i.e. AOAC, ICH etc.)
- Provides laboratory operational information, products, and services by establishing sample preparation protocols; developing and implementing analytical procedures; interpreting laboratory results.
- Works with leadership team to continue to attract and retain best in class laboratory personnel.
- Supports Veda's values of Engagement, Expertise, Consistency, Accountability and Responsiveness.
- Works with CSO & VP of Operations to create a continuing education program to enhance the skills and professional development of lab team members.
- Maintains laboratory equipment performance by establishing quality standards; developing operations, and troubleshooting procedures; ensuring staff compliance; certifying (calibration) instrument performance; arranging equipment replacement, service, and repair.
- Maintains laboratory supplies inventory by improving and updating procedures to check stock to determine inventory level; anticipate needed supplies; place and expedite orders for supplies; oversee receipt of supplies and inventory
- Maintains laboratory productivity by monitoring workload of functional areas; making operational or staffing adjustment.
- Maintains laboratory information system by identifying information needs and problems; recommending improvements; establishing priorities; testing; writing and revising standard operating procedures; training employees; maintaining security and confidentiality.
- Working with the VP of Operations to ensure ISO 17025-2017 is on track and meets all quality directives
- Maintains laboratory staff by supervising the recruitment, selection, orientation, and training of employees.
- Completes operational requirements by scheduling and assigning tasks to employees and following up on work results.
- Monitors laboratory staff performance by evaluating and appraising

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree or Higher
- Minimum of ten years of laboratory experience
- Minimum of four years in leadership roles
- Significant experience with some or all of the following pieces of equipment: HPLC, LC MS/MS, GC MS/MS, ICPMS, GCxGC, qPCR
- Experience managing complex projects and/or operations
