Graduate ATOD Wellness Educator - Student Assistant

GatorWell is seeking an enthusiastic, outgoing, motivated, and health-conscious graduate student to promote wellness by assisting in Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drug education, outreach, and individual appointments at GatorWell Health Promotion Services. Those applying will need to be comfortable talking about substance abuse and its related issues, taking initiative to approach students and encourage them to participate in GatorWell activities and programs, and comfortable fielding question(s) (in person or by phone) around sensitive issues. Students of any major are welcome to apply, though students with a background or current graduate work in the following areas will be strongly considered: public health, counseling, psychology, social work, health promotion, health education, or higher education/educational leadership. Primary responsibilities will include the following:
- Assist with GatorWell’s ASTP (Alcohol Skills Training Program), BASICS (Brief Alcohol Screening and Intervention for College Students) & CASICS (Cannabis Screening and Intervention for College Students) program for referrals.
- Provide one-on-one educational sessions on alcohol and cannabis use to students.
- Assist in data management and analysis for the BASICS/CASICS program.
- Assist in maintenance of GatorWell’s eCHECKUP online system.
- Communicating and collaborating with BASICS/CASICS partners within the Division of Student Life
- Assist in preparing program materials and reports.
- Communicate health messages and conduct related activities through tabling, presentations, and other outreach events.
- Work will predominantly be in the areas of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs (ATOD), but will help with other topics as needed.
Expected Salary:
This is an hourly student OPS position and does not include a tuition/fee waiver or benefits. Salary is $13/hour.
Minimum Requirements:
This position is open to all graduate students who are eligible to work on campus and will be
employed through student Other Personnel Services (OPS). Students must maintain a minimum 2.0 grade point average and be enrolled for at least six credit hours a semester. Registered students are employed on a part-time basis.
- Must be able to start as soon as possible Summer 2022
- Knowledgeable with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Must be able to commit to 20 hours a week in Spring, Summer and Fall 2022
- Must have a mostly daytime availability, but also some evenings (with advanced notice) or weekend.
- Must be able to attend the GatorWell Student Employee Training before Fall 2022 semester
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong interest in health and wellness
- Strong interest in substance misuse prevention
- Excellent communication and public speaking skills
