The Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior is seeking to hire a full-time Research Nurse to join the laboratory of Dr. Ziva Cooper in the UCLA Center for Cannabis and Cannabinoids at the Jane and Terry Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior. You will contribute to research studies of drugs, including cannabinoids, to understand both their potential therapeutic and adverse effects. Under the supervision of a research psychologist and physician, you will administer research protocols to ensure compliance with IRB approved study designs. You will conduct telephone interviews with prospective research participants, coordinate schedules of volunteers with those of research (physicians, psychologists, research assistants) and clinical personnel, oversee the completion of research questionnaires, establish and maintain rapport with volunteers, and monitor compliance with all aspects of the studies. You will maintain source documents, case report forms, and data books in compliance with FDA regulations, and may perform preliminary data analysis. In addition, you will place and remove intravenous lines to draw blood, perform electrocardiograms, and monitor vital signs.
Qualifications
California Registered Nursing License and BSN Degree
Minimum of 2 years' research experience
CPR/BLS through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
Ability to be ACLS certified
Ability to question subjects about sensitive behavioral issues, including drug use and other high risk behaviors
Experience working with patients from diverse backgrounds, especially active substance users
Ability to work effectively and closely with other members of the research and clinical team, with community-based researchers, and with community stakeholders
Ability to work independently and report to supervisor(s) on a regular basis and in a timely manner
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and use of Internet
Skill in using equipment to conduct medical and laboratory procedures, including but not limited to phlebotomy collection devices, vital signs equipment, EKG machines, and AED
Ability to work flexible hours including weekends
Intermediate level experience with database management using multiple software packages and ability to merge and manage multiple databases

Maintain constructive working relationships with staff, Investigators, patients, and collaborators
Experience working with patients from diverse backgrounds, especially active substance users
Skilled in keeping accurate and timely records;
Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
Ability to work effectively and closely with other members of the research and clinical team, with community-based researchers, and with community stakeholders.
Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently and report to supervisor(s) on a regular basis and in a timely manner;
Ability to problem solve and manage demands/assignments/deadlines.
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and use of Internet.
