Dispensary Technician (Physician Dispensing)

Dispensary Technician provides assistance to the supervising dispensary technician in the daily operations of preparation and dispensing of IV's and oral medications. The Dispensing Tech will follow all state and local laws and rules and regulations while assisting in the preparation and/or dispensing processes.
Requires prolonged sitting, some bending, stooping, and stretching. May require travel by automobile and airplane. Some travel would require overnight stay. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate keyboard, telephone, and other office equipment. Requires normal range of hearing, voice and eyesight to record, prepare and communicate appropriate reports.
DUTIES REQUIRED:
- Assist the supervising technician or physician with the day to day operations of dispensing of medications.
- Have an understanding of community pharmacy with regards to the day to day filling of prescriptions through an electronic pharmacy system. i.e. QS/1 NRx.
- Responsible for ordering, stocking of all of the oral and IV medications.
- Once trained on the dispensing system; posses the ability to add new patients, update patient's insurance plan, process Rxs for payment, reconcile claims.
- Responsible for maintaining adequate supplies, bags, vials, equipment, etc…. needed for the day-to-day operations of the Pharmacy or practices dispensing program.
- Create annual performance improvement plans to be reviewed by dispensary mangers.
- Create quarterly performance improvement reports to be reviewed by compliance officer.
- Create performance improvement activities based upon the performance improvement plans to institute best practices in the dispensary.
- Attend all Business and Clinical meetings as requested by management.
- Maintain strict confidentiality.
- Good Communication with office staff
- Performs other related work as required.
PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge of organization's policies and procedures. Knowledge of computer systems, information technology applications and database manipulation. Knowledge and understanding of Community Pharmacy daily operations as they pertain to filling, processing, and/or dispensing of oral medications and inventory control. Knowledge and understanding of the practice of community based pharmacy. Skill in written and verbal communication. Skill in exercising judgment, initiative, discretion and decision-making to achieve organizational objectives. Ability to work effectively with all departments, vendors, and consultants. Ability to identify problems and recommend solutions. Knowledge of obtaining Prior Authorizations for certain medications. Understanding of Patient Assistance Programs to reduce financial burden of the patients.

Position Summary:
The Pharmacy Manager is a licensed tech with knowledge and proficiency in pharmacy practice and pharmacy administration. The incumbent is responsible for the professional and administrative management of an assigned area in pharmacy operations service, to include day to day operations and a focus on compliance. The incumbent is also responsible for supervising multiple pharmacy staff members.
The Manager is a part of the Pharmacy Operations management team. The Manager will have pharmacy staffing responsibilities as well as be responsible for the supervision and coordination of daily work activities of pharmacy staff member’s schedules and assignments. The Manager serves as a resource to the assigned staff regarding specific skill demonstration, promotion of knowledge, communication and will be expected to provide ongoing education, coaching and mentorship.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
· Oversee all pharmacy reporting, audits, inventory, training, and pharmacy employees
· Prepare drugs and execute prescription orders for collection or delivery
· Order pharmacy supplies and control the inventory on a daily basis
· Enforce best practice protocols when storing prescription drugs and controlled substances
· Verify prescription details with the healthcare specialists who prescribed them, when required
· Advise patients about the recommended use, dosage, and possible side-effects of medication
· Maintain an approved drug list and verify expiry dates
· Address patient’s requests and complaints
· Appoint and train new pharmacy employees and schedule shifts
Required Experience, Education, and Skills:
· Licensed Pharmacy Technician
· Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or an equivalent combination of education and experience
· 6+ years of experience in Pharmacy management
· 4+ years’ management and/or supervisory experience leading a team of Pharmacy Technicians.
Responsibilities included but not limited to the hiring, coaching, development of the team, and measuring/monitoring
team effectiveness.
· Advanced knowledge of protocols regulating the safe storage of prescription drugs
· In-depth knowledge of the pharmacological uses and side effects of prescription drugs
· Competency in pharmacy management software, such as QS1 & IKM system
· Ability to proactively follow up any irregularities with scripts processed at the pharmacy
· Exceptional communication skills in advising patients and managing employees
· Ability to establish strong partnerships with all levels of management both internally and externally
· Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing circumstances and environment, strong analytical, critical thinking and organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to identify and implement process improvement capabilities
