The Shellfish Growers Climate Coalition (SGCC) was founded in 2018 by shellfish businesses around the country in partnership with the Nature Conservancy. Currently numbering more than 220 small businesses, the coalition is dedicated to sharing personal experiences about climate impacts with consumers, policymakers and other audiences with the aim of achieving a low carbon future for the benefit of shellfish and the environments they depend upon.
YOUR POSITION WITH TNC
The Marketing and Communications Manager leads the Shellfish Growers Climate Coalition’s marketing and communications program. This includes developing, managing and implementing strategies that facilitate comprehension, adoption, and advancement of the coalition’s goals and objectives. This is carried out through key constituencies, including coalition members, consumers, community members where coalition member businesses are located, and policy makers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Communications and Marketing Manager is responsible for developing and implementing focused communication, marketing and earned media strategies to help the coalition be a driving force toward a low carbon future. The manager facilitates communication among all parts of TNC’s globally dispersed marketing division, and internal and external stakeholders, including coalition members.
The manager devises strategy around and delivers a variety of communication materials to further the goals of the coalition. They provide editorial advice and expertise, oversee coalition and cross-departmental communication efforts, and work with outside writers and related vendors. Their written products may include newsletters, website content, social media posts, op-eds, and presentations.
The manager also actively identifies target audiences and facilitates earned media placements around key moments for the coalition, through collaboration with individual chapters, the global media team, coalition members, and outside vendors. They strategize and recommend contracting marketing and communications services and manage relationships with contractors.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE
- Has primary responsibility for communications strategy design and execution of all SGCC communications, including creation and management of communications and marketing plan.
- Acts as a strategic partner with TNC state chapters and North America marketing and communications teams, helping to identify strategic communications needs and serving as a resource to solve problems.
- Supervises marketing contractors, with responsibility for performance management. Establishes clear directions and sets objectives. May also supervise volunteers and interns.
- Leads and manages implementation of social media and earned media strategies.
- Writes or supervises development of all newsletter, website and social media content.
- Oversees visual image and writing style across media to elevate the SGCC brand.
- Responsible and accountable for meeting project goals and objectives.
- Resolves complex issues independently within program area.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in related field and a minimum 7 years’ related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience with managing and implementing media strategies and measuring results.
- Experience with writing, editing and proofreading messages for targeted audiences.
- Experience with cultivating and managing client relationships.
- Experience developing media relations networks.
- Experience with implementing and managing multiple complex projects.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- A strong sense of how to build compelling stories and persuasive messaging.
- Experience developing, implementing and measuring marketing and communication strategies involving multiple platforms including earned, paid and owned digital and print channels.
- Experience conceptualizing, creating and promoting a variety of marketing collateral including newsletters, magazine, web-site articles/stories, social media posts, video and presentations.
- Ability to manage projects with multiple participants and stakeholders, including outside vendors.
- Clear communicator with strong presentation skills preferred.
- Ability to build collaborative relationships with a variety of internal and external partners.
- Knowledge and application of current and evolving trends in marketing and communications, especially social media.
- Passionate commitment to and familiarity with issues around climate action preferred.
- Multi-lingual skills appreciated.
- Multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience preferred.

The Senior Manager of Sustainer Retention and Cultivation works closely with the Membership team and across the Conservancy to coordinate, implement and manage effective multi-year strategies and plans for sustainers currently on file and acquired across multiple fundraising channels.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Senior Manager of Sustainer Retention and Cultivation is responsible for retaining the growing portfolio of sustainers and donors through the development of relationship between the member and The Nature Conservancy. They understand and apply the principles of developing fundraising appeal and retention strategies. They will be responsible for working with multiple vendors in a variety of channels to appeal, upgrade and cultivate sustainers. They may conduct an annual sustainer survey to assess the satisfaction of sustainers with The Nature Conservancy. Following up to the survey they will be responsible for developing strategies that leverage survey findings and increase sustainer satisfaction year-over-year. The Senior Manager of Sustainer Cultivation will cross-collaborate with staff at the Worldwide Office, state chapters, external vendors & partners and other key stake holders. They are capable of featuring the programs of the Conservancy in broad terms through multiple channels in collaboration with agency staff. They may be responsible for sustainer engagement events. The Senior Manager of Sustainer Retention and Cultivation will be required to use the Conservancy’s donor database and other reporting tools.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE
- Manage a portfolio of 75,000+ sustainers, including one-time donors with the capacity to give sustaining/on-going gifts of $10 per month or more.
- Responsible for the upgrading and saving of sustainers through telemarketing programs and in partnership with the Member Care team.
- Manage, cultivate and grow the sustainer revenue stream generating $12MM+ per year in subsequent giving. Maximize the giving opportunities for sustainers through cross-channel cultivation and regular gift capture oversight.
- Manage and serve as team lead on assigned projects.
- May supervise professional and/or administrative staff.
- Manage assigned budget, evaluate results and develop recommendations for corrective strategies as needed.
- Responsibility and accountability for meeting project goals and objectives.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

- Ability to implement and manage fundraising plans, including individualized cultivation, solicitation and recognition plans.
- Experience leading in a team-based environment with internal and/or external partners.
- Experience applying fundraising principles on projects/programs.
- Practical knowledge of current and evolving trends related to field of experience.
- Experience conceiving and writing creatively for various audiences from technical information.
- Strong communication skills with ability to articulate ideas in a compelling manner.
- Detailed knowledge of procedures and terms in relevant field of experience.
