TISSUE CULTURE LAB MANAGER
Reports to: Chief Tissue Culture OfficerLocation - King City California or Ventura CaliforniaFull Time PositionSalary – Depends on ExperienceOpportunity to earn equity in the Company
1) Qualifications:
a. 5+ years commercial agriculture experience or 2+ years commercial agricultural experience with a master’s degree level agricultural related degree.
b. Experience working in a tissue culture lab.
c. Expertise in the Cannabis industry.
d. Proficient with Google Docs and/or Microsoft Office products.
e. Experienced team leader with a positive attitude and solid communication skills.
f. Must be 21 years of age or older.
2) Duties and Responsibilities:
a. Manage the day-to-day operations of the Tissue Culture Lab with primary oversight responsibilities including initiation, production planning, media preparation, sterilization, and tracking plants.
b. Overseeing the tissue culture process and keeping accurate records and presenting the results in a timely manner to the appropriate supervisors and executives.
c. Provide training new technicians; supervise tissue culture production employees.
d. Manage related equipment and related service schedules for grow rooms, autoclaves, hoods etc.
e. Media preparation: mixing necessary chemicals, growth regulators and gelling agents for daily media preparation.
f. Ensure all employees are operating safely and following all company health and safety standards. Serve as safety coordinator and primary lab emergency contact.
g. Manage weekly production schedule/planning.
h. Ensure that the laboratory is kept in a clean and good operating condition, including working with outside vendors as needed.
i. Ensure staff compliance with standard operating procedures and best practices for laboratory.
j. Maintain a high level of organization within the laboratory including records of internal stocks of specialized reagents and experimental samples, inventory of consumable supplies and tracking of equipment.
k. Track and organize preventative maintenance, calibration, and any troubleshooting of equipment.
l. Coordinate removal of hazardous waste by external vendors.
m. Monitor and manage all grow area environmental controls and functions to maintain and ensure a desired cultivation climate at various stages of the plant life cycle.
n. Assist in developing company production methods, SOP, GAP, GMP and work closely with the other team members to develop and improve processes.
o. Training and scheduling for all future Tissue Culture Department staff.
p. Participate in developing and implementing rules, regulations, policies, and procedures to advance the company’s mission, vision, goals, and objectives.
q. Attend required meetings and participate in team and professional development activities.
r. Able to communicate effectively both written and orally and demonstrate a sense of timeliness.
3) Work Context: Physical Requirements:
a. Requires prolonged sitting and standing and some bending, reaching, stooping, and stretching.
b. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to perform grasping, lifting, walking, standing, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
c. Able to lift, carry, and balance up to 50 pounds.
4) Work Context: Working Conditions:
a. Work is generally performed in the lab rooms (indoor) however, occasionally may require working in an indoor/outdoor climate-controlled greenhouse.
b. Work is subject to weather conditions, including rain and hot or cold temperatures.
c. Involves frequent contact with varied levels of personnel including vendors, visitors, and staff.
d. Will require working rotating shifts with varied hours/ day, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events.
