Please note, this role is second shift, Monday thru Friday. Hours are 3:00 PM to 11:45 PM.
In this role you will be responsible for providing operational support in your department by actively participating in daily laboratory production. Further, you will work with the department Team Lead to develop laboratory skills to ensure that workflow is managed according to sample holding time, priority status, and due dates while remaining compliant with RI Analytical’s quality systems, standard operating procedures (SOPs), health & safety regulations, and company policies. As skills develop, you will assist with the training of Chemists and perform basic troubleshooting of laboratory issues.
As a Chemist I, your essential functions will be to:
- Actively participate in daily laboratory production. This should account for approximately 90% of your work time. In time, this may include review of raw data.
- With assistance from the Team Lead, coordinate workflow to achieve most effective production while satisfying requirements for quality, on-time performance, and holding time with minimal supervision.
- Perform basic troubleshooting of common laboratory issues.
- Follow procedures as outlined in SOPs relevant to trained assays.
- Complete an Initial Demonstration of Capability (IDC) prior to performing analytical testing on samples independently and then complete an annual Continuing Demonstration of Capability (CDC).
- Adhere to R.I. Analytical’s Chemical Hygiene Plan, Code of Ethics and other policies defined in the Quality Manual, and Employee Handbook.
- Communicate any laboratory issues in a timely manner to the Team Lead.

RI Analytical is seeking a highly motivated individual to lead our Microbiology Team in Warwick, RI as a full-time microbiologist. The schedule for this position is typically 9am - 5:45pm, Monday - Friday. Occasional weekend and overtime hours are required.
In this role you will primarily be performing microbiological analysis on environmental samples. In addition to this, you will be responsible for daily, weekly, monthly, and annual laboratory maintenance and QA/QC requirements. Qualified individuals should have knowledge and understanding of commonly used laboratory concepts, practices, and procedures and should be able to work independently after the completion of all necessary training. The ability to multitask is a must for this role.
As a microbiologist, your essential functions will be to:
- Follow procedures as outlined by Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for analytical testing.
- Complete an Initial Demonstration of Capabilities (IDC) prior to independently performing analytical testing on samples and then annual Continuing Demonstration of Capabilities (CDC).
- Adheres to the R.I. Analytical Chemical Hygiene Plan, Code of Ethics, and other policies defined by each laboratory’s Quality Manual and Employee Handbook.
- Communicates any issues in a timely manner to the Laboratory Director.

Qualifications:

Position Summary:
Individual performs sample collection, transport, and acceptance of cannabis samples in accordance with RIDOH/DBR rules and regulations. Individual to be cross trained in the preparation and analysis of cannabis and cannabis-infused-product for Potency by HPLC. Individual will work efficiently within compliance of quality systems, standard operating procedures, health & safety regulations, and company policies. The individual will work independently and with the understanding that they are working in a securely controlled environment with strict security protocols. Individual possesses a basic knowledge and acknowledgment of medicinal cannabis practices.
Responsibilities and Duties
· Prepares a representative sample by selecting, weighing them in a designed area on the cultivator’s site, providing an appropriate amount of material for a representative analysis. Aseptic technique will be utilized as applicable to microbial analysis.
· Provides safe and secure transport of a federally controlled substance.
· Cross trains on various scopes of preparation and analysis.
· Follows procedures as outlined in the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) relevant to specific trained analyses according to priorities assigned by the Operations Coordinator.
· Adheres to R.I. Analytical’s Chemical Hygiene Plan, Code of Ethics and other policies defined in the Quality Manual, and Employee Handbook policies.
· Maintains a professional demeanor and is customer service oriented.
· Communicates any issues in a timely manner to the Operations Coordinator
· Maintains and promotes clean, organized, and functional work areas.
· Other duties as required or assigned by Operations Coordinator and/or Technical Director
· As projects warrant, after hours or weekend coverage may be required.
Qualifications:
