Full Job Description
Position Title: Senior Accounting Coordinator
Time Commitment: PT to start, potential for FT within 2-3 months
Compensation: $25-$30/hour DOE
Target Start Date: ASAP
You won’t find a bright stock photo with a bunch of power suits standing around a conference table in this post. Nor will you find that type of ‘corporate’ environment at Revel Accounting. While we might seem like a typical small accounting firm to most, we do things a bit different.
Equity & Social Justice Commitment
First, we want to emphasis our dedication to equity & social justice. We strongly believe ALL businesses participating in our capitalism-driven society hold a responsibility to eliminate systems of inequity that have historically (and actively) cause harm to BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, women, and many other marginalized communities in this country.
We are committed to consciously rejecting racism and prejudice as well as recognizing, questioning, educating and actively UN-learning subconscious biases within ourselves that are rooted in anti-Blackness, white supremacy, and/or patriarchal practices.
Do you find any of the above statement offensive or controversial? If so, we likely would not be a good fit & wish you the best of luck in your continued search.
If you’re still with us, read on!
Who We Are
Revel Accounting is an outsourced accounting firm. We perform full cycle bookkeeping and fractional Controller-level accounting services to a variety of clients across an array of industries.
Our company vision is to create a workplace that is progressive, always growing and always fun. While never compromising on our shared values, or our sometimes goofy nature, we hope to have a lasting positive impact on our community through supporting our many awesome small business and nonprofit organization clients, helping them in turn achieve their own vision.
How You’ll Spend Your Time
Recurring Tasks:
- Manage the full financial close for a portfolio of clients, with a mix of monthly and quarterly based services. This process would include standard accrual-based journal entries & schedule maintenance, P&L analysis, and full reconciliation of the balance sheet.
- Reviewing work completed by team members as part of the month end close process. This would include transaction entries such as cash ledgers or payroll, bank/credit card reconciliations, and other balance sheet reconciliations depending on client.
- Request documents or information from clients as needed, following up consistently to ensure it is received timely.
- Prioritizing positive client relationships by addressing any/all client requests, questions or concerns promptly, assessing priority and responding to urgent requests within 24 hours, others within 48 hours.
- Setting/Managing overall team schedule based on client deadlines, collaborating with the team throughout the month to ensure deadlines are met. Communicating proactively with team members and clients if adjustments are necessary.
- Reconciling non-integrated systems to ensure the data aligns with each other, such as when A/R or inventory is maintained in a separate system outside of the main accounting file.
- Analyzing various metrics commonly found within financial statement data. This could include digging further into revenue, expenses, profitability, receivables, or other areas dependent on client need.
- Compiling standard and advanced financial reports, both as part of our recurring monthly/quarterly services and ad-hoc.
- Presenting/participating in recurring financial review meetings internally as well as with clients
- Fulfilling detailed tasks for outside financial parties such as tax preparers, lenders, and/or auditors.
Project Tasks:
- Specialized one-off balance sheet reconciliation clean-ups such as clearing out ‘Undeposited Funds’, investigating negative balances that show up where they don’t belong, addressing open or stale transactions on A/R or A/P subledgers, or data entry catch-up projects for new clients. To include overall facilitation/oversight of staff support when available.
- Develop and organize internal systems and practices to support staff. Ensure all team practices fulfill client needs while also centering Revel’s core values & policies.
- Additional ad-hoc projects as they arise.
What You’re Great At
- You are very familiar and comfortable with accrual-based accounting. Experience with advanced complexities like nonprofit fund accounting, locations, intercompany or cannabis would be a bonus.
- You would consider yourself an expert in QuickBooks, Xero or another standard accounting system(s), and quick to learn new software when introduced.
- Juggling & organizing schedules to meet multiple deadlines with varying degrees of priority. You understand flexibility when various client needs arise is important, as is continuous collaboration with the team to avoid disruption of other scheduled deadlines at the same time.
- You are a creative, out-of-the-box problem solver. You might be the type that enjoys puzzles or games like Clue or Mancala in your free time; or trying to avoid opening the instruction book when putting together Ikea furniture.
- You are diligent about follow-through, and make sure that your work is thorough and organized.
- You are motivated and self-driven. You look for new challenges without waiting to be asked and you take ownership of your time.
- You enjoy working solo as well as with team members and are comfortable communicating with all levels of personnel you might encounter on the client side – from Office Managers and Billing Clerks to Owner/Executive Director/CEO.
- You pride yourself on your attention to detail and acute analytical skills. At Revel, we are not your typical in-n-out transaction bookkeepers; we help our clients discover, and expand on, the story behind their numbers.
- Excel! Familiarity with pivot tables, filters, and advanced functions such as IFERROR and Lookups would be highly appreciated though not required so long as you are open to leveling up in those areas if you’re not already there.
- You are relaxed, not easily unraveled, and confident in your professional skills while also not being afraid to own when you make mistakes or know when to ask for help.
When & Where You’ll Work
- This position will be 100% remote & part-time to start (20-25 hrs/week). We would love for this role to turn full-time within the next 2-3 months. That timeline will largely depend on how efficient & effectively this person is at owning tasks they’ll be expected to take on, along with steady continued growth at the firm level.
- Revel Accounting offers a great deal of schedule flexibility for all team members. Please note that some availability during “regular business hours” within the Pacific Standard Time zone will be necessary for meetings scheduled/agreed upon in advance, or for real-time communication across client/staff concerning time-sensitive deadlines as needed.
- As a standard, we provide an internet/phone stipend as well as a company owned laptop for you to use while working. We are happy to supply any other equipment needed to ensure as stress-free-from-tech-issues-at-home environment as possible. We are accountants, not IT consultants!
How We’ll Support You
Compensation-based:
- Pay will be hourly to start, transitioning to salary as the role expands
- Equitable cost of living wage adjustments along with merit based increases
- Flexible PTO & above-standard paid holidays
- Group health benefits are *not yet available* but we do plan to offer it in the very near future, ideally by the time this position goes FT.
Interpersonal:
- Training – We can’t promise standard written procedures for every task, but we do promise not to ever transition anything to you fully until we have given a thorough walkthrough and you are confident in your ability to own it.
- Growth Opportunities – Interested in a course covering a topic you’re not already an expert in? Let’s get you registered! Want to join in on a proposal pitch because you’re curious what the “sales” side is like? Done! Want to spend the better part of a full day playing in Excel, figuring out how to create the spreadsheet of your dreams? DO IT! When you grow, we grow.
- 100% Transparency & Collaboration – Particularly regarding any/all things that may affect you personally, your role, responsibilities, or regular workload. Basically, you won’t ever surprised over changes that are within our control. In fact, we’ll do everything we can to consider your input beforehand. And if you ever want to see/discuss our internal financials, those are open book, too.
To apply: Submit your resume ASAP. Within the cover letter area of your submission, give the number of bullet points in this post that did not end with a period (.*) and why that either did or _did not *_bother you. We look forward to hearing from you!
