Lab Technician

We are a Quality Control Laboratory organized to support the Cannabis Industry with a focus on executing the mandated testing set forth by the Department of Cannabis Control regulations.

We are actively looking for a motivated and energetic individual to join our team in Salinas CA to be a part of our dynamic team with a ground floor opportunity to work within a progressive lab in the Monterey and Santa Cruz area with a great potential for future advancement. Given the fast-paced cross-discipline environment of our lab, the Laboratory Technician will have a strong interest and background in science, can communicate effectively, and supports the values of our organization.
The next laboratory team member:
The Lab Technician will serve two critical roles within the organization. The primary role will be to play an influential part in our sample intake department. This position will employ various techniques that vary from use of standard laboratory equipment to using highly modern instrumentation. The skill sets developed by training with the team require dedicated attention to detail and a foundational understanding of scientific principles.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Follows procedures for logging samples into LIMS and accessioning of samples for analysis.
- Contributes to monitoring and maintaining inventory for general laboratory consumables, solvents, internal standards, and hazardous waste.
- Assures proper verification and function of various analytical equipment.
- Regularly display good laboratory technique to avoid cross-contamination or misidentified samples.
- Perform sample preparation and complete QC duties, as assigned.
- Perform routine and non-routine maintenance and verification on various instruments, as assigned.
- Maintain physical and electronic records.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Adheres to current Good Laboratory Practices (GLP)
- Strong understanding of standard laboratory protocol.
- Excellent organization, multitasking, data analysis skills.
- Demonstrated excellence in working with groups with diverse backgrounds and communicating effectively in a collaborative small team environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Emphasis on Excel, Word, and SharePoint).
- Aptitude to maintain a very high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
Education and Experience:
Required:
- Must be 21 years old
- Completed 2 years of college or university education that included coursework in biological, chemical, agricultural, environmental, or related sciences from an accredited college or university, plus at least 3 years of full-time practical experience. Knowledge of principles, terminology, practices, techniques, and instrumentation commonly used in a laboratory setting.
- Must be able to lift/ move items up to 35lbs.
- Must be able to stand/sit for extended periods of time.
Preferred:
- At least two (2) years of relevant work experience in USDA, FDA, EPA, NELAC, or other regulatory frameworks.
- BS. In Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, or related discipline.
Additional Details:
- This position is full-time hourly with opportunities for overtime

Laboratory staff can be expected to work in areas where hazards associated are with, but not limited to, airborne pathogens, corrosive, and flammable materials.
Appropriate training is provided regarding these hazards and staff are expected to always adhere to all health and safety policies, whether they are in writing or verbalized by a supervisor

Field Sampling Technician

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collect field samples of cannabis products at client sites in accordance with state regulations and company procedures
- Accurately record sample information, taking great care to accurately record batch numbers and all details required for transport manifests
- Follow detailed procedures to ensure cleanliness and avoid contamination of samples being collected.
- Weigh samples with a field balance and record sample weights.
- Input data into company ordering and tracking system and double check for accuracy
- Drive to client sites and return samples to the laboratory all over the Monterey and Bay area.
- Driving for multiple hours at a time
- Provide excellent customer service
- Build trust and rapport with clients
- Work efficiently and effectively under time constraints
- Maintain client confidentiality
- Follow safety procedures
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to learn new software, such as LIMS.
- Willingness to perform tasks outside of defined job description to support the team.

- Ability & willingness to utilize modern app-based communication tools effectively.
- Ability to work effectively in fast-paced laboratory environment with multiple tasks at hand; weekend flexibility a plus.
- Demonstrated excellence in working with groups comprised of diverse backgrounds and communicating effectively in a collaborative small team environment.
Education and Experience:
Required:
- Must be at least 21 years old
- Must have valid California Drivers License and clean driving record
- Must be able to lift/move items up to 35lbs.
- Must be able to stand/sit for extended periods of time.
Preferred:
- Associates or Bachelors degree in a science related field is highly preferred
- 1 or more years of laboratory experience
- Understanding of aseptic technique
- Experience in a cannabis testing laboratory or cannabis industry
- Knowledge of the Department of Cannabis Control regulations
- Knowledge of METRC
- Knowledge of Confident Cannabis
