POSITION OVERVIEW
The primary objective of this position is implementing strategy and leading development and engagement efforts for Pillsbury House + Theatre. This person reports to the Artistic Producing Director/Senior Director of Arts and Culture and is responsible for building relationships, designing communication and engagement strategies, and developing diverse resources to support the programs, projects, operations and growth of Pillsbury House + Theatre. The Development and Engagement Director has significant cross-agency impact and will help create, direct and implement plans and relationships to secure earned, contributed and government resources for PH+T programs, operations and initiatives. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of non-profit leadership/communications/development experience; ability to design, implement and deliver complex, long-term plans on time and on budget; and facility initiating, building and maintaining positive, productive relationships among diverse individuals and groups.
Primary Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
Strategy and Thought Leadership
- Provide subject matter expertise in external relations, communications, individual donor cultivation, and grant writing/grants management
- Set priorities, help develop vision and direct production of communications/promotional materials targeted to specific audiences
- Identify key champions/stakeholders/supporters, build and maintain productive relationships
- Lead strategic innovation that straddles the entire agency
- Recognized internally and externally as a thought leader
- Broad awareness of diverse resource streams (individual, foundation, corporation, government) and ability to access resources
Operations and Outcomes
- Analyze data, trends, & needs to create strategic communications and development plans
- Assess + report impact to inform strategic communications aimed at a range of audiences
- Define plan goals and then track and monitor relationship building and resource development campaigns and progress toward goals
- Create processes + systems to drive positive change and PH+T growth
- Ensure high-quality production of communications/promotions/development materials
People and Community Development
- Facilitate relationships between people, departments and organizations - internally and externally
- Identify key stakeholders, build and maintain a network of relationships to support PH+T activities, programs, operations and growth objectives
- Model creative, equitable and inclusive culture
- Inspire action among stakeholders
- Lead and motivate staff, interns, volunteers, and contractors as dictated by the needs of specific initiatives and campaigns
Financial Management
- Help develop and manage the annual PH+T budget as well as specific project/capital/program budgets; full budget management for complex development and communications program area, initiatives and projects
- Steward and solicit funders, partners and champions
- Identify and solicit new income/resources to meet or exceed annual organization targets as well as special project targets
Required Skills/Experience
- Experience developing contributed as well as earned resources in a non-profit environment
- Experience leading the design and production of communications/promotional strategies and materials that motivate target audiences to participate/engage/give/champion
- Able to build and maintain a broad network of professional relationships among corporate, nonprofit, government and philanthropic program officers/leaders/influencers
- Able to build positive, productive, culturally responsive relationships with community
- Demonstrated facility in working productively and generatively in under resourced neighborhoods with diverse populations
- Understanding and active demonstration of appropriate personal boundaries and professional ethics
- Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include evenings and weekends
- Self-motivating with excellent time management, follow-through and accountability skills
