:
This position is responsible teaching courses offered by and planning, administering, and managing the Master of Science in Biotechnology (MSBT), MS in Medical Cannabis Therapeutics (MSMCT), and associated Certificate and Certification Programs. The Assistant Professor and Program Director for Biotechnology and Medical Cannabis Studies will closely monitor student recruitment, student tracking, student advisement, curriculum development, faculty evaluation, and day-to-day operations of the Online MSBT, MSMCT, and associated Certificate and Certification programs, including external partnership development.

1. Develop their own independent, yet collaborative, research program in biochemistry.
2. Contribute to the formation, enforcement and tracking of policies that impact student outcomes and learning.
3. Provide strategic leadership to grow the Online MSBT, MSMCT, and associated Certificate and Certification programs.
4. Assist in curriculum development for the Online MSBT, MSMCT, and associated Certificate and Certification programs.
5. Assist the GEBS Assessment & Operations Director to assess plans, outcomes and learning objectives to provide the best and most relevant education to students
6. Develop, implement, and/or design programs directly related to recruiting students for Online MSBT, MSMCT, and associated Certificate and Certification programs.
7. Works effectively and collaboratively with individuals/stakeholders to maintain and further develop Online MSBT, MSMCT, and associated Certificate and Certification programs.
8. Participate in administrative activities of GEBS Assessment & Operations related to the Online MSBT, MSMCT, and associated Certificate and Certification programs.
9. Assists in the development of course content, other curricular materials used for instruction and benefit of MSM students.
10. Collaborates with Subject Matter Experts in course design and the development of new courses.
11. Submits requested information in a timely manner to support administrative and/or accreditation requirements.

- PhD or equivalent degree in a biochemistry, pharmaceutical sciences, and/or pharmacology
- Highly preferred experience in teaching online courses.
- Experience with STEM pipeline and graduate education grant writing is highly preferred.
- Past experience working in biotechnology and/or medical cannabis industry is recommended.
- Knowledge of principles and practices of graduate course development, planning, and evaluation.
- Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply related institutional policies and procedures.
- Ability to prepare clear and concise reports, correspondence, and other written materials.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Doctoral degree or equivalent terminal degree is required from a regionally accredited college or university. In support of Morehouse School of Medicine’s Vision; “Leading the creation and advancement of health equity,” the Department of Microbiology, Biochemistry, and Immunology (MBI) is seeking an Assistant or Associate Professor, Biological and Biochemical Research.
Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM) is developing a Natural Products Research Center (NPRC), which will focus on biological and biochemical research aimed at identifying, validating, and developing therapies from plant products. The NPRC is establishing a new area of research around medical cannabis and the endocannabinoid system. Hence, the successful candidate will be expected to work with existing and future NPRC faculty and staff, to teach and train students in biochemistry, and metabolite analysis, while developing or maintaining their own independent, yet collaborative, research program. Thus, we are seeking a candidate with (i) expertise in the endocannabinoid system and (ii) the background in this system to build this new area at MSM. Preferred linked broad research areas that already exist at MSM are: cancer, infectious diseases, neurology, or cardiometabolic disease. Finally, familiarity with, and/or experience using, current bioinformatic methods to analyze and visualize data (e.g., proteomic, metabolomic, lipidomic) is important.
The Department of Microbiology, Biochemistry, and Immunology (MBI) has a national and international network allowing a wide array of, and ample opportunities for collaboration in multiple research areas. These areas include immunology, drug development, genomics, complementary & integrative health, natural product-based research, cancer, and infectious diseases including virology, protozoology, and bacteriology. MSM has renovated core facilities providing both basic shared-use equipment as well as specialized services such as microparticle analysis, zebra fish development, and advanced imaging facilities.

Minimum Qualifications

The MS in Biotechnology program seeks individuals with academic credentials in all areas of biotech, including but not limited to:

Expectations for Instructional Faculty for Online Courses The following list outlines the expectations for adjunct faculty who are hired as instructors to facilitate an online course for Morehouse School of Medicine.
1. Manage the online course
a) Post a welcome message and introduction prior to or within the first 24 hours of the course.
Encourage students to post welcome statements to each other.
b) Conduct a minimum of one regularly scheduled office hour per week. Office hours are
intended to provide students with the ability to communicate with instructors in real-time. If
the office hours must be cancelled, students should be given advance notice and provided
with information concerning alternate office hours.
c) Submit attendance by the following Monday for each week.
d) Demonstrate clear understanding of the Online Attendance Policy located in the Online
Handbook for Online Courses.
e) Contact students and the Program Director and follow up with those who may be experiencing
individual issues around attendance or performance and recommending support services as
appropriate.
2. Teach and facilitate the course
a) Teach the assigned course in accordance with learning objectives and session plan outlines.
b) Deliver learner-centered instruction through online delivery mechanisms (i.e. discussion
boards, office hours, small group sessions, asynchronous sessions, etc.)
c) Promote discussion board participation by posting substantial responses to select student
postings at least three different days per week.
d) Respond to all student communications within one business day. If a student concern requires
additional time to resolve, please send an acknowledgement to the student to indicate receipt of his/her message.
e) Post announcements relevant to address upcoming activities, encourage use of learning
support services, clarify expectations, student concerns, etc.
3. Assess student learning
a) Adhere to all rubrics to assess student learning.
b) Submit grades 5 business days after due date in the online grade book and keep the grade
book current. Provide each student substantial feedback on assignments that contribute to
the final grade.
c) Grade all final assignments and submit final course grades by Wednesday after the end of the
term.
d) Stay engaged in the course with any students who have been granted course extensions
(incompletes). Be sure to adhere to policy guidelines and timelines.
Minimum Qualifications
Adjunct Faculty should possess a terminal degree at the doctoral level from a regionally accredited program; however, Master of Science level degree faculty with exceptional experience will be considered. Online teaching experience is highly preferred. Submit CV/Resume and One Letter of Recommendation on letterhead and signed and unofficial transcripts. Official transcripts will be required if hired.

Assistant Professor and Program Director for Biotechnology and Medical Cannabis Studies

This position is responsible teaching courses offered by and planning, administering, and managing the Master of Science in Biotechnology (MSBT), MS in Medical Cannabis Therapeutics (MSMCT), and associated Certificate and Certification Programs. The Assistant Professor and Program Director for Biotechnology and Medical Cannabis Studies will closely monitor student recruitment, student tracking, student advisement, curriculum development, faculty evaluation, and day-to-day operations of the Online MSBT, MSMCT, and associated Certificate and Certification programs, including external partnership development.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Develop their own independent, yet collaborative, research program in biochemistry.
2. Contribute to the formation, enforcement and tracking of policies that impact student outcomes and learning.
3. Provide strategic leadership to grow the Online MSBT, MSMCT, and associated Certificate and Certification programs.
4. Assist in curriculum development for the Online MSBT, MSMCT, and associated Certificate and Certification programs.
5. Assist the GEBS Assessment & Operations Director to assess plans, outcomes and learning objectives to provide the best and most relevant education to students
6. Develop, implement, and/or design programs directly related to recruiting students for Online MSBT, MSMCT, and associated Certificate and Certification programs.
7. Works effectively and collaboratively with individuals/stakeholders to maintain and further develop Online MSBT, MSMCT, and associated Certificate and Certification programs.
8. Participate in administrative activities of GEBS Assessment & Operations related to the Online MSBT, MSMCT, and associated Certificate and Certification programs.
9. Assists in the development of course content, other curricular materials used for instruction and benefit of MSM students.
10. Collaborates with Subject Matter Experts in course design and the development of new courses.
11. Submits requested information in a timely manner to support administrative and/or accreditation requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
- PhD or equivalent degree in a biochemistry, pharmaceutical sciences, and/or pharmacology
- Highly preferred experience in teaching online courses.
- Experience with STEM pipeline and graduate education grant writing is highly preferred.
- Past experience working in biotechnology and/or medical cannabis industry is recommended.
- Knowledge of principles and practices of graduate course development, planning, and evaluation.
- Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply related institutional policies and procedures.
- Ability to prepare clear and concise reports, correspondence, and other written materials.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
