MGO is growing and we need an experienced, motivated, and dedicated Assurance - Audit Partner with a strong industry background in State and Local Government (SLG) to join the team. A career in our public assurance - audit sector will provide you with the opportunities to develop advanced technical auditing skills in a variety of industries. This Assurance - Audit Partner role will be partnering alongside staff and firm leaders to direct all operational functions of their assigned department/engagement audit teams.
The government entities MGO works with are the largest in the US and many are bigger dollarwise than a lot of countries. Some of the largest states, counties, cities, airports, railways, and ports to name a few and not to mention the largest statewide audit in the country.
Essential Functions:
- Has overall responsibilities for the department’s performance; manages and directs all aspects of the firm’s policies, objectives, goals and initiatives through delegation, motivation, and coordination of efforts with direct reports.
- Provides leadership to staff; ensures a competent, motivated staff through hiring, assignment, and training, supervising, and reviewing performance of direct reports.
- Represents the firm to its customers and the public. Attends client meetings and regularly scheduled staff/department meetings.
- Planning, budgeting, and scheduling of engagement and/or client work.
- Responsible for client relations including attraction and retention.
- May perform General Services Professional duties
- May perform Professional Standards Review duties such as final report review of financial statements; work with engagement or client manager on accounting, auditing, or financial reporting matters; review schedules and work papers of corrected and uncorrected misstatements.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in public accounting, corporate accounting required with at least 3, but typically 4 +, years of experience as a Senior Manager and or Director.
- Bachelor’s Degree in accounting OR Bachelor’s Degree plus requisite accounting coursework.
- Hold an active and “in-good standing” CPA license from appropriate state.
- Strong and effective communication skills including the proven ability to make presentations and respond to inquiries from Partners, clients, and public groups.
- Must have extensive industry experience within state and local government entities.

MGO Strategic Staffing is looking for Temporary Sr. Budget Analyst for our client in San Carlos, CA. This is a 6-month contract position with the possibility for extension. In this position, the Senior Budget Analyst is responsible for preparation of the operating budgets, performing a variety of complex professional analytical studies and undertaking assignments and projects as required.
Examples of Essential Functions:
- Receive, review, and monitor cost center manager budget requests.
- Prepare the budget report in the monthly financial statement.
- Review and verify budget authority for both operating and capital projects for all three agencies, including monthly and quarterly staff reports.
- Review and analyze year-over-year budget changes, historical and future trends, and project budget assumptions. Work with staff at all organization levels, representatives from organizations and groups, and the public to give and/or secure necessary information.
- Liaise with internal staff and external stakeholders to provide and/or retrieve budget information.
Examples of Duties:
- Provide cash flow analysis for current budget year activities. Process budget transfer requests.
- Prepare the monthly financial statement presented to the Board of Directors by reporting on budget activities and variance analysis.
- Prepare the annual budget book based on the Government Finance Officer Associations’ (GFOA) standards and best practices.
- Prepare budget presentations for Citizen’s Advisory Committees and Board of Directors approval including all graphs, charts, and narratives.
- Prepare statistical portion of Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) for all three-business units.
- Perform all job duties and responsibilities in a safe manner to protect one’s self, fellow employees and the public from injury or harm. Promote safety awareness and follow safety procedures in an effort to reduce or eliminate accidents.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must have very strong Excel skills
- Must have prior experience with Financial Modeling and Budget Forecasting
- Three years of relative experience required
- Public sector experience preferred
- Experience with People Soft preferred
- A Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
- Three years full-time increasingly responsible experience in budgeting, accounting, or related field an automated financial management system (e.g., PeopleSoft is desirable).
- Experience with company-wide budgeting is desirable.

Director of Learning & Development will lead an agile team dedicated to building the strategies and learning experiences that enable all MGO team members to experience meaningful career growth and development.
This leadership position will develop and drive a company-wide learning and development strategy focused on all facets of learning and capability development to enable a diverse high-performance culture. This is a very hands-on leadership role driving the talent and learning strategies that develop our people, increase retention, and drive business outcomes. The Director of Learning and Development will direct the strategic planning, design, implementation, maintenance, and administration of all training and development solutions, including, building technical, functional, industry, and leadership capabilities, in order to meet the firm’s business objectives today, as well as tomorrow.
