Social Media Specialist, Editorial – 13-week, temporary role
Marijuana Business Daily (MJBizDaily), an award-winning B2B media company producing online news services, newsletters, magazines and major trade shows, is seeking a temporary Social Media Specialist.
This role reports to the VP Content Strategy and Audience Engagement and works closely with our editorial and sales teams.
This is a 13-week long, temporary position, beginning July 5.
As a social media specialist, you will amplify our content across social channels. You’ll suggest and implement creative ways to attract more audience and promote our brand. Ultimately, you should be able to increase web traffic and customer engagement metrics aligned with broader marketing strategies.
Role Responsibilities:
- Through day-to-day hands-on execution and longer-term strategies, create engaged communities of fans and advocates.
- As a business news publication, be prepared to post at least 7 stories a day across 8 social platforms
- Amplify existing content for each social channel that is on-brand, differentiates us from our competitors, and conveys our value
- Use data to continually improve content strategy
- Schedule a regular cadence of content, while being opportunistic with timely news/content
- Tactically manage our accounts across social platforms daily
- Build social posts for paid advertising clients and report on key metrics
- May include creating, managing and reporting on LinkedIn ad campaigns
What you bring to the team:

MJBizDaily, the award-winning business news site for cannabis industry professionals, with more than six million unique visitors per year enjoying its daily stories, is seeking a Web Development Lead to manage our small in-house team of three (including yourself.) This position reports directly to our head of IT and is responsible for several high-profile, WordPress, web sites including MJBizDaily, Hemp Industry Daily and MJBizCon.
Our headquarters are in Lakewood CO, however this full-time position can be remote if desired. It is open to residents of the US and Canada excluding the states of California, Louisiana and New York. Required ‘office hours’ for any meetings are 10am-3pm MT, Tuesday-Friday, with a 40-hour week workload assumed. This role includes full benefits such as healthcare, 401k and a flexible vacation plan.
Along managing the day-to-day operations of the Web Development team and this role is first to assist in more complex and/or coding heavy projects and issues.
Overall, you would be responsible for managing your team’s morale, goals, deliverables and tickets as well as supervising team member assignments and tracking their progress; working with the Content and Events departments to plan and implement site changes; maintaining website code for multiple sites using versioning software (Git/Beanstalk); and, managing / applying coding updates to news web sites with heavy traffic. Responsibilities will include:
- Manage your small team and occasional external contractors to ensure quality and consistency of deliverables
- Work with front-end and graphic designers to apply suggested UI/UX changes to current sites
- Contribute code and tests
- Troubleshoot, monitor and support all websites in live production, including updating change requests, fixes and errors to site coding in timely manner

– Copywriting marketing messages, including emails and landing pages, on our sites and in our publications to let businesses know they should enquire to advertise, sponsor or exhibit with us
– Researching, updating, classifying and organizing prospect information in our SalesForce database so we know more about our customers and potential new accounts
– Reviewing competing publications to measure our market share and ID advertisers our sales reps should be paying more attention to
– Helping our executives use their LinkedIn accounts to connect with our best customers and prospects

Creative Director (Brand, Copy, and Design)
Marijuana Business Daily (MJBizDaily) is the oldest and fastest-growing producer of B2B news, analysis, trade shows and conferences serving executives, entrepreneurs and major investors in the $14 billion global cannabis and hemp industries. Founded in 2011, MJBizDaily has been on the Inc. 500 and 5000 lists for the past three years. Among its many offerings, the company produces the industry’s largest B2B trade show, MJBizCon, which attracted over 27,000 attendees in 2018 and has received numerous awards for its unprecedented growth.
We are seeking an experienced, inspirational, hands-on, flexible and naturally collaborative individual with a high attention to detail to join us as Creative Director and be responsible for driving the consistent and motivating expression of the Marijuana Business Daily family of brands.
As a B2B publisher and events owner, we are looking for a candidate who has experience creating design and copy for published assets, physical events or physical brand expressions, and digital marketing campaigns – someone who understands how design and storytelling come together for a B2B audience.
In a rapidly growing marketplace, the Creative Director, with their team, will translate and execute marketing objectives through the collaborative development of original design concepts, marketing campaign creative, digital media production, videos, web creative and brand experiences. This senior leader will be the driving force behind the MJBiz family of brands in the marketplace, ensuring consistency in look, feel and voice, and demonstrating deep understanding of our target markets and how to appeal to them.

What we’re looking for you to do:
- Lead the creative team by expressing a clear creative vision, driving a culture of curiosity and collaboration and inspiring breakthrough ideas for our products and programs
- Lead the creative direction of our brands in design and copy to connect deeply with our target audiences
- Lead our creative and copy expression across a diverse range of channels including websites, email, social media, digital signage, app, printed materials, event collateral and all other marketing and communications materials.
- Communicate a clear vision for the continued evolution of our brands.
- Develop and implement an integrated branding strategy across multiple channels
- Develop definitive brand creative & copy style guides to ensure brand consistency
- Develop an in-depth understanding of the brands’ customers in order to communicate effectively
- Provide creative direction to the team to deliver work which is consistently on-strategy, on-brand, and on-brief
- Lead creative review of marketing communications – both creative and copy - resulting in specific recommendations, and action plans to close gaps and address opportunities
- Manage, develop and provide strategic input to the Creative Services team through inspiring leadership and mentorship.
- Be hands-on in design and copy creation as needed to fill gaps and meet deadlines.
Required experience and skill sets:
- 10+ years’ experience in creative roles, at least 3 years in a management role as an ACD or CD, blending design, copywriting, and art direction, and at least 3 years in a B2B environment.
- Experience in an events and/or publishing environment is a strong plus
- Experience leading creative/content strategy and architecture development through the lens of modern marketing (digital, multi- or omni-channel, metrics-based, etc.)
- Ability to analyze campaign performance data and translate it into key insights
- Ability to communicate and present exceptionally
- Ability to bring expertise on the topics of brand architecture, audience definition, message architecture, content planning, value proposition, and compelling conceptual creative
- Experience with corporate brand strategy and internal communications
- Solid strategic writing and copy writing background
- Diverse portfolio of skills with experience in design, copy, and design management.
- Demonstrated strategic thinking and creativity with excellent practical skills in getting things done.
- Work samples that include strategy, copywriting and design that was personally owned and delivered as part of your role in the project/program
- An ideal candidate can perform under tight deadlines and unexpected changes in direction and priorities
- BA in communications or other arts related field of study or equivalent experience.
