The Cultivation Leader is responsible for developing the organization and initiative necessary to lead the grower team to success. These duties include propagation, transplanting, plant nutrition, growing, and fulfillment of the company’s products for distribution to market. The position will support the continued expansion and management of a large-scale cultivation operation in the Lewiston/Auburn area. Horticultural experience, including leading a team of frontline growers, would be beneficial to succeed in this position.
This position will also act as the growing expert, implement IPM and plant nutrition programs and operations management.
Additionally, this position will manage the physical and mechanical aspects of product preparation for distribution to our customers.
This position will be responsible for collaborating with and leading individuals that have been selected to manage their respective departments, ensuring the success of the propagation team, transplant team, growers/waterers, etc.
The candidate should be prepared to work with the senior management team to create and measure standards of performance for supervisors and labor, including transplanting, product movement, transfers, master pull process, or any function that requires large amounts of labor, as well as labor tracking for best efficiency.
The candidate in cooperation with our Director of Compliance should be able to manage annual inspections of properties and ensure all records, licenses, and permits are up to date in order to keep the company in compliance with legal ordinances.
This position requires the Cultivation Leader to coordinate with facility personnel to maintain cleanliness and organization of materials and facilities as directed.
These duties will also include organizing, managing, and coordinating with Human Resources all vacations, layoffs, leaves of absence, employee status changes, etc., including annual vacations during the holidays.
The candidate will be responsible for maintaining a professional image at all times while representing the company, including but not limited to all industry events and travel, after-hours’ functions, seminars, and trade shows, etc. All company-related facility visits, dinners, events, meetings, and after-hours entertaining.
Other administrative duties will be required as needed. General Duties will also include:
Overseeing crops and making recommendations to maximize crop quality. Hands-on oversight of irrigation, fertigation, and general plant maintenance across several different facilities. Scheduling crop production and finish dates.
Examining crops for nutrient deficiencies, excesses, pests, and pathogens.
Budgeting, record keeping, and developing SOPs to ensure the production of quality crops. Solid computer skills in Excel and Word are a plus, as well as a working knowledge of environmental control equipment and other cultivation technology. Ability to understand soil and tissue tests and make recommendations to improve plant health.
The Cultivation Leader will order testing, package and deliver samples in a timely manner to ensure results readiness upon product completion and before distribution.
Expertise in one of the following fields is required: botany, horticulture, agronomy, plant science, entomology, pathology, and/or plant nutrition a plus. Large scale, commercial growing experience is required, preferably indoor.
Education and Work Experience Requirements:
- Minimum 5 years’ cultivation experience, including greenhouse experience
- Minimum 3 years’ cultivation experience as a grower, or equivalent
- Mastery of all grow mediums (Soil, Coco, Rockwool, etc.)
- Mastery of all irrigation methods (Hand-water, Subirrigation, Drip Systems, DWC, etc.)
- Adept at industry best practices and current/new techniques with respect to nutrient needs of individual strains, calculated pruning, controlled stress environments to different lighting systems and set-ups
- Knowledge of commercial plan cultivation, including crop rotation management, nutrient requirements, media, light requirements, and environmental control
- Knowledge of plant diseases, pests, nutrient deficiencies and excesses
- Experience in scheduling of employees
- Experience in building plant schedules
- Cannabis experience preferred
