Herbiculture is a family-owned business that is newly licensed to grow and process cannabis in Maryland. We have been serving patients in Maryland through our Burtonsville dispensary since 2018. ABOUT THIS ROLE
In the coming year, we will be setting up our growing and processing facilities and we are looking for an experienced grower who can help us build the growing side of our business from ground up. You will start off as a contractor/consultant, working with a team of engineers to help us build our facility. Once the facility is built, you will become a full-time permanent member of our family as a Master Grower.

As a Master Grower, you enjoy growing cannabis plants at all stages from germination to curing. You understand each plants’ characteristics and needs. You are able to easily identify problems in plants while providing appropriate solutions to ensure the plants are healthy at all stages. You are passionate in continuously learning about various growing techniques to produce different strains and strive to increase cannabinoid and terpene content. You like to strive to maximize yield while minimizing costs. You are always on top of your schedule and likes to keep your work on track. With your organizational and multi-tasking abilities, you won’t be overwhelmed by volume. Furthermore, you are able to work on a flexible schedule and don’t mind working in bright, warm, and humid environments for extended period of time. Most importantly, you have a compliance mindset. You understand and work within the cannabis cultivation regulations and keep appropriate records and logs.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
Consultation
- Strategically and technically managing all aspects of cultivation operations including site designs, set-up, and execution
- Provide insights in sourcing necessary resources (equipment, supplies, starting materials)
- Evaluate new technologies and techniques and implement them at cultivation facilities.
- Work with planners and engineers to design the growing facility and coordinate with the team to ensure project completion
- Develop indoor grow facility environmental parameters and program/monitor automated control software
- Develop cultivation plans with team: lighting plan, nutrient delivery, watering plan, CO2, monitor each stage of growth, determine how long plants stay in each phase, adjusting plan accordingly to each strain and individual plant
- Provide feedback to engineers on plant moisture content, humidity/lighting requirements, CO2 requirements, etc.
- Identify plant varieties and quantities to fit facility and market needs
- Set and implement integrated pest management strategies in compliance with state and company policy
- Develop safety and standard operating procedures from germination to curing
- Develop proper sanitation protocols for the cultivation facility
- Develop and write cultivation SOPs ensuring compliance with State regulations and company policies
- Explain and enforce safety regulations and policies
Operations
- Manage all cannabis growing processes to to maintain exceptional quality standards and maximize production. Processes include: germinating, plant propagation, potting, transplanting, nutrient regiments, crop scheduling, irrigation, trimming, harvesting, drying, curing, inventory management, packaging and destruction.
- Develop custom fertilizer recipes to optimize yield, plant health, and potency
- Apply cultivation methodologies to maximize yield while minimizing costs
- Monitor production results to ensure high quality yields and address any deviations in operations
- Prevent, diagnose and resolve plant health issues accordingly like mold, mildew or other infestations within regulations
- Set propagation, germination, and planting schedules for all crops and varieties
- Ensure growing environment is maintained at highest standards of cleanliness and sterility at all times (waste disposal, contamination prevention)
- Ensure growth requirements of cannabis plants are consistently met (lighting, soil PH, nutrients, etc.)
- Ensure cultivation remain on harvest cycle
- Manage inventory and budgets related to cannabis farming (including grow mediums, nutrients, etc)
- Communicate with team and suppliers to order materials and supplies
- Maintain suitable care of tools, equipment, and production facility as a whole
- Overlook maintenance schedule (ie, HVAC system)
- Organize and document the daily process of transplanting, cloning, defoliation and trimming of plants according to harvesting cycle and policy
- Aid in keeping appropriate records and logs as required
- Report growing/harvest metrics to Operations Manager
- Coordinate with all other departments to ensure company needs are met through the cultivation process
People Management
- Assign duties and develop production schedules, work schedules, and duties for staff
- Drive team accountability for adherence to standards and product yield
- Identify and address staff training and needs
- Provide training on all aspects of cultivation to ensure staff are trained to produce the highest-quality product for the market
- Manage and support team of flower lead, harvest and trim lead, vegetation lead
- Work with Human Resources to address problems related to staff’s performance, and address staff misconduct effectively at the lowest level
- Collaborate with Operations Manager and Senior Management Team regarding staffing requirements, recruitment and hiring, onboarding
YOUR ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of the entire cannabis growth cycle and requirements
- Understanding and working within all applicable cannabis cultivation regulations
- Understanding of pest and disease management techniques including prevention, identification, and resolution
- Understanding of process and techniques to increase cannabinoid and terpene content
- Willingness to continue learning about horticulture and cannabis farming, and stay on top of current and future trends
- Excellent communication skills and leadership both verbally and through written media
- Excellent interpersonal and active listening skills, proven ability to positively influence people; must be capable of effectively interacting at all levels in the organization.
- Problem solving and critical thinking skills
- Ability to stay calm and organized when managing multiple demanding properties in a dynamic environment
- be willing to work a flexible schedule, including some on-call time
- Work in bright, warm, and humid environments for extended period of time
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite including Outlook, Word, Excel, and research
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Degree in Botany, Biology, Agriculture, Horticulture, Agronomy, Plant Sciences or relevant field
- Proven 8-10 years experience as a grower at a large scale cultivation facility
- 1-2 years management experience
- Must be able to pass a criminal record check
