Summary:
This position will be required to safely operate, maintain, and clean high production, sophisticated and automated cannabis pre-roll (cigarette) manufacturing and packaging equipment.
This position must facilitate production of pre-rolls that meet/exceed requirements in regulatory compliance, health and safety, environmental standards, brand standards, and customer experience.
Day to day:
Communication skills, organization, attention to detail, health and safety, and time management are critical to the success of our pre-roll department and to the continued improvement and success of the brand.
Some examples of day-to-day work include:
- Setting up production machines and ancillary equipment to optimal specifications
- Operating production machines at high efficiency to deliver finished products of good quality, low reject and in line with agreed production targets and specifications.
- Performing troubleshooting and basic maintenance on production machines and ancillary equipment.
- Assisting in planned maintenance inspections and preventive maintenance on the production machines and ancillary equipment.
- Assisting in carrying out modifications to improve on the production machines’ performance where necessary.
- Closely monitoring the performance of production machines as well as providing input on all factory equipment requirements.
- Training and development of subordinates within the section.
- Liaising with management on manufacturing technological changes.
- Liaising with management to ensure key sub-assembly spares are available when required and in good condition.
- Ensuring that the machine, production line and working station is cleaned and sanitized to a very high standard.
- Working in a team-based environment with other employees.
- Troubleshooting and resolving mechanical problems.
- Disassembling manufacturing equipment, sanitizing, and reassembling.

At the highest level, the Headwaters Master Grower manages and leads staff of growers, assistant growers, quality control staff, and internal transport staff engaged in the growing, care and maintenance of the company’s cultivated products. This individual directs the application of technical procedures, timing and metering devices that control frequency, amount and type of nutrient applications; regulates humidity, ventilation, temperature and amount of light; and dispenses fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides and fungicides. In addition, they monitor crop development and the removal of substandard plants to maintain quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Discusses plant growing activities with management personnel to plan for growing activities that are consistent with planned production schedules.
- Plans for space allocation based on production reports and harvest schedules.
- Monitors growing conditions and oversees changes in humidity, moisture and temperature and cultivation procedures to ensure conformance with quality control standards.
- Monitors plant development to ascertain conditions such as leaf texture, bloom size and the existence of pests or disease; removes substandard or diseased plants to maintain quality standards.
- Determines rates of fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides and fungicides as required by the crops and applies and/or directs the application of them.
- Develops growing procedures for new varietals in product line and new cultivation techniques.
- Maintains inventory of needed growing supplies such as fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides and fungicides.
- Maintains records of growing techniques and production; reviews records and reports to identify trends and to forecast future space and production needs.
- Plans for and requests staff on a timely basis.
- Schedules staff and assigns work; conducts periodic performance evaluations.
- Trains employees in growing techniques and activities.
- Maintains a current knowledge of growing techniques and technologies.
- Maintains an awareness of new state of the art equipment and provides input into equipment and facilities upgrades and replacement.

At the highest level, the Phenohunt Specialist will be responsible for developing and maintaining a comprehensive breeding and or pheno-hunting program and strategy to breed and or develop differentiated cannabis strains. They will work closely with the R&D Technician and the sales team. The Specialist will provide data-supported recommendations to the business for low-cost, reliable, sustainable, and safe production of cannabis strains.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the use of cost-effective new technology to help develop superior and improved genetics to help keep Headwaters out in the forefront with the strains consumers demand.
- Manage and fully utilize the research space at our farms to maximize improved new potential varieties that come out of the program.
- Maintain all aspects of existing and future seed stock.
- Develop and maintain roadmaps for pheno-hunting to meet yield and quality targets.
- Responsible for finding additional material to help make the breeding program a success.
- Investigate and make recommendations regarding new technologies in breeding or pheno-hunting.
- Analyze and scientifically assess plants in laboratory and field trials and select the best varieties.
- Maintain detailed records throughout the project and variety development cycle.
- Keep up to date in the fast-moving area of science and translate ideas from scientific literature into new approaches to pheno-hunting problems.
- Other duties as assigned by manager.
The candidate must have
- Bachelor’s in Plant Science, Crop Science, or a related field.
- Ability to maintain accuracy in a fast paced environment where multitasking and reprioritizing is essential.
- Have a strong background in plant breeding, quantitative genetics, experimental design, statistical analysis or data science.
- Must be 21 years of age or older.

The Opportunity
Nursery research and development (R&D) Technician will contribute to all steps in nursery product development and assist with greenhouse and field trials. The role will be a part of a collaborative team and creates an opportunity for the candidate to closely work across disciplines.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Assist with establishing, monitoring, maintaining, and evaluation of trials in the in-house greenhouse facility.
- Closely work with the team members, but perform with minimum supervision, specially under field conditions.

- Highly proficient with Tableau, SQL, and Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.

Maintain and supervise all product storage.
- Ensure that every box and bag is organized and labeled appropriately.
- Maintain a current understanding of METRC, the state's track and trace system.
- Update inventory regularly to reflected numbers in METRC.
- Assist Sales Team with pulling samples, answering questions, providing photos and updated inventory counts.
- Aid in cycle counts.
- Ensure all units are packaged correctly according to their packing SKU's.
- Manage orders, pick & pack, ensure orders are client worthy before delivery.
Other responsibilities as assigned by manager.
The candidate must have:
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Reliable transportation
- No recreational cannabis-use is tolerated during work hours.
Must be 21+ years of age
