Columbia Laboratories is looking for a Laboratory Technician to join our growing team. We are a long standing, accredited food safety, cannabis/hemp, and water testing laboratory in Portland, OR. Columbia Labs is a proud member of the Tentamus Group, a global team of laboratories focused on human wellness.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Perform sample preparation for ICP, IC, Flow Analyzer, and water distillation.
- Work with the supervisor to determine priority of samples, including;
- Standard preparation
- Sample extraction
- Instrument setup
- Data entry
- Properly handle and dispose of laboratory hazardous waste.
- Seek opportunities to reduce routine laboratory costs by increased efficiency (higher throughput, decreased cost of supplies).
- Execute projects as assigned to meet changing laboratory needs and requirements.
- Shared responsibility for general laboratory organization and cleanliness.
- Communication of relevant work details to Lab Supervisor and coworkers.
- Other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications:
- Strong computer, scientific, and organizational skills
- Excellent communication (oral & written) and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, self-motivation, adaptability, and a positive attitude
- Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, keep accurate records, follow instructions, and comply with company policies
- Able to stand for long periods of time and regularly lift 20 pounds.
Education and Experience:
- High School Graduate or GED with preference for candidates with experience working in a production laboratory.
- Good knowledge of Environmental laboratory terminology, wet chemistry, bench work, equipment, materials, and the techniques/procedures commonly used in a production laboratory.
- Knowledge of LIMS, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Familiarity with EPA methodologies, regulations, and environmental data compliance.
- Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship.
- Position is full-time with overtime as needed. Day Shift Monday-Friday.

Columbia Laboratories is currently looking to fill a full-time position for a Microbiology Laboratory Technician to join our growing team. We are a long standing, accredited food safety, cannabis/hemp, and water testing laboratory in Portland, OR. The ideal candidate will ensure laboratory services are communicated with potential clients and that customer satisfaction remains paramount.
Duties:
- Prepare and maintain adequate stock of media agar plates, broths, agar slants,dilution tubes, sterile equipment, and media supplements
- Record accurate quality control information in equipment/media logs
- Calibrate balances and pH probes
- Keep track of expiration dates and quantities of all consumables, add items to order list when near expiration or low, track overall lab inventory of lab supplies
- Autoclave, dispose and document bio-hazard waste
- Clean glassware
- Perform QC of media and sterile water
- Occasionally assist analysts with prep and plating samples
- Maintain lab cleanliness
Education and Experience:
- Associate degree or greater in microbiology or related field.
- Emphasis in microbiology and aseptic techniques preferred
- 0-2 years of related lab experience
- Experience working in a GMP lab setting preferred but not required

Columbia Laboratories Inc, the Portland branch with core competency in Food, Environmental, Hemp & cannabis is currently looking for an experienced GC/MS Chemist.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Perform analytical testing using Gas Chromatography and other ancillary laboratory equipment
- Review and verify accuracy of data; ensure quality system compliance in data packages
- Participate in lab investigations for data exceptions and root cause analysis for corrective actions.
- Perform all lab work with high degree of accuracy and precision
- Participate in workload assignment and management of analysis, data review, and reporting.
- Document results accurately in notebooks and computer systems
- Read, understand, interpret and update SOP’s as needed
- Perform instrument calibration, recognizes errors, identifies root causes, applies process improvements
- Prepare analytical standards and mixes
- Supervise and assist with troubleshooting and repair of analytical instruments
- Provide analytical expertise to a cross-functional project team
- Communicate effectively with staff members
Basic Qualifications:
- Experience operating/Maintaining a GC (specifically GC MS/MS and GC ECD)
- Experience in Mass hunter and Chem station analytical software platforms
- Experience in an ISO 17025 quality system environment
- Experience with pesticides residue analysis
- Strong computer, scientific, and organizational skills
- Excellent communication (oral and written) and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, self-motivation, adaptability, and a positive attitude
- Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, keep accurate records, follow instructions, and comply with company policies
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in chemistry, or other related degree concentration, or equivalent directly-related experience (two years of directly related industry experience is equivalent to one full-time year of college in related major)
- 2-5 years’ experience operating Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry in a professional setting
- Experience with Agilent and Shimadzu operating systems.

Position is full-time with overtime as needed. Candidate must be willing to work Tuesday – Saturday or Wednesday – Sunday.
