As the Research and Development Manager, you will be responsible for all areas of the Research and Development department, product development, optimization, and scale-up of products in formats such as confections, chocolates, beverages etc. This person will be responsible for executing and actively participating in the product development process and will work in conjunction with Operations, Marketing, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain teams to design and launch new products and optimize existing products. This position will report to the R&D Director and work closely with R&D Specialists and Chemist.
About you:
- Support the product development process from concept to commercialization for Consumer-Packaged Goods(CPG).
- Ability to analyze tests and experiments and appropriately make recommendations for product changes needed to achieve defined product targets and expectations.
- Knowledge and experience related to producing CPG or hemp products, this includes but is not limited to: creating consumables, extraction techniques and routes of administration.
- Passionate about developing food products in various delivery formats (confections, chocolates, mints and beverages).
- Possess a thorough and honest understanding of the cannabis moment, including a passion for cannabis science, and application.
- Versed in planning, organizing, assigning, and coordinating the activities and resources of the department.
- Robust understanding and application of basic scientific principles as well as production laboratory operations.
- Ability to adapt to and implement new methods and techniques for operational and product improvement, technical development, and new product development.
- Assist with compliance, including the creation of batch production records, and product labels specific to the state of Pennsylvania, and in accordance with company standards.
- Partner collaboratively with other department managers including but not limited to, Marketing, Supply Chain and Operations.
- Develops and implements research and development procedures, programs, and techniques to meet organizational needs and capitalize on potential new products.
- Works collaboratively with product development towards innovative formulations that meet both patient and company guidelines for effectiveness, cost, and stability; must be able to take formulations from lab scale to full production.
- Operate under the highest standards of compliance and integrity and ensure that the R&D and other teams are following company-defined protocols.
- Knowledge of Food & Supplement regulations (including DSHEA, FD&C Act Section 21 CFR 111) is preferred.
- Familiarity with R&D processes and practices, takes and completes direction well, and works well within the team and with cross-functional teams.
- Hands-on approach to business; very flexible and not reluctant to get involved in all aspects of the business.
