The Grower Manager is responsible for growing and finishing of a variety of liner plant material also 7 different sizes. This position ensures that a high percentage of plants meet established company grades and standards. Responsibility begins once plant material is moved from propagation and continues throughout all growing and maintenance phases; completion occurs when the plants are shipped to the customer, or are potted into containers. This position reports directly to Ownership/General Manager. The Grower Manager is also responsible for Directly supervising staff of up to 8 employees and completing payroll for these employees.
Responsibilities:
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
1. Directly supervise staff of up to 8 employees.
2. Assist in hiring and proper training of crews and supervisors.
3. Monitor employee conduct to ensure conformity with company policies and procedures. Take appropriate corrective action when necessary.
4. Assist with annual budget planning and adhere to supply and labor budgets.
5. Communicate plant health issues with other departments (Propagation, Shipping, Sales).
6. Take part and uphold the Nursery Cleanliness and growing standards and guidelines
GROWING RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
1. Develop and implement plant maintenance schedules needed for a 2-4 week period.
2. Provide troubleshooting & training to other employees.
3. Have a designated section of greenhouses to walk for daily water calls. Update daily/weekly reports as needed. Assist with the development of fertilization schedules for liners, and containers.
4. Monitor and assist with transplant protocols, as well as report back any plant-loss or plant-mix problems.
5. Regularly review new transplant houses. See all new houses through the new transplant drench, and application of top-dress material.
6. Assist in cutting coordination of liners for standard propagation.
7. Manage all aspects of the growing environment – heating, shading, venting, etc.
8. Develop and update winterization schedules.
9. Manage crops to achieve target grades and projected finish dates. Advise sales and ownership if a crop is not expected to be up to grade or finish in time. Perform routine inspections walks of all growing locations.
10. Direct Environmental Services on issues involving weeds, insects, and diseases.
11. Provide input on all preventative spray programs as required and make necessary changes.
12. Advise General Manager when repairs & modifications to the growing environment are necessary.
13. Work with Shipping to ensure quality through ship date.
14. Work with the other Growers to research the growing parameters for soils, fertilization, top-dresses, and application requests to improve crop yield.
Qualification Requirements:

Education/Experience:
· Must have one of the following: A Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture + 2 years of experience;an Associate’s Degree in Horticulture + 3 years of experience; or 3-5 years of nursery experience (including at least 2 years of crop growing experience).
· A proven ability and interest in plant growing.
· Must be able to lead and motivate people to meet departmental and individual goals.
· Must have a working knowledge of computer programs in include inventory, spreadsheets, word processing, email, and tasks. Computer skills should be on an intermediate level.
· Must have excellent attendance history.
· Must be able to read and write
· Must be able to work safely. Safety is always the highest priority
· Able to work well with others.
· Able to work extra hours as required to meet department objectives.
· Able to work in other departments or other job duties as needed to meet company objectives.
Language Skills:
Must be fluent in English and have the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Must have the ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must have the ability to sit or stand or stand for extended periods of time. Specific vision requirements include- color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
Must be able to work in extremes of Washington weather (hot, cold, rain, wind)

Pay: $26.00 - $28.00 per hour
