We are seeking an individual to complete a project to assemble a manual and training materials for our manufacturing processes, working under direction. This work must be done onsite at our Cortland, NY, factory.
Job description
The writer and content creator will assemble training and management documentation for a manufacturing facility. This person will translate manufacturing procedures and processes that they watch or learn about into a variety of formats, from instruction manuals to frequently asked questions, how-tos, fact sheets, technical specifications, training videos and reference manuals. The writer needs to be able to describe complex processes such as installation, setup and functions in clear English for consumers, who will often be complete beginners and may have no technical expertise. The writer will be expected to contribute to the layout and design of the document, particularly with reference to diagrams that support the step-by-step written instructions. The writer will work solo and be responsible for all aspects of some documents and be part of a team and need to perform duties reliably to get the project completed on time.
The writer and content creator should have strong writing and communications skills. A background or experience in working with manufacturing companies is a plus. A technical mindset is a must.
This person must possess excellent communication skills, particularly in writing. They must be clear and concise and also be able to work with a wide variety of colleagues to be sure they have a good understanding of the product or process they are writing about to convey all the important information about it to the end user. They must be able to work under pressure and meet all deadlines.
This person must be able to handle complex transactional language to describe processes and functions of complex business or production processes. They should also have a good command of the technical terms and vocabulary commonly used in the field in which they are working. And they should write in a consistent style.
The writer and content creator should be able to work well with their senior editor and a team of reviewers and fact checkers, who will all review the document writer's work before it is published and released. Document writers should have an excellent command of grammar and punctuation and show great attention to detail.

- Determine different users’ needs for technical documentation
- Observe production operations and talk with all participants about what they are doing and why
- Work with management staff to make instructions easier to use
- Write or revise supporting content for products and processes

- Incorporate animation, graphs, illustrations, photographs, video to increase users’ understanding of the material
- Select appropriate media, such as manuals or videos, for message or audience

Production Manager

We’re looking to hire a production manager for our Cortland factory, which we opened in Spring 2020.
This person will run a tight ship but do so in a positive, motivating way that shows respect for their colleagues. A get-it-done mentality is a must. We need someone with a level head who thrives on goals and deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, manage, and motivate a team of approximately 10-15 people
- Work with the director of production to schedule production
- Ensure adequate and efficient staffing for production, shipping and receiving, and quality control procedures
- Direct production team leaders in ensuring safety, quality, and efficiency of production
- Meet productivity goals
- Manage inventories of raw materials, finished goods, and production supplies
- Work with the director of production and the sales team to coordinate order fulfillment
- Interface with national-level quality control and product/process development teams
- Ensure compliance with OSHA safety regulations on-site
- Participate in hiring and oversee training of new employees
- Oversee facility services such as utilities, cleaning, landscaping, and pest prevention
The Production Manager will report to the national-level director of production and also interface with the national-level quality control and R&D teams. The facility manager will supervise production team leaders, shipping and receiving workers, and a production site admin who supports many of the functions listed above.
