Essential Duties and Responsibilities: To manage the team of growing on section and assistant growers to irrigate and grow the appropriate quality and quantity of plants to the existing quality standards while meeting the ready dates and quality standards as represented by the rooted quality guide. Manage the space and movement of plants from propagation into the growing on facilities through the communication of available space locations to PPIC and the MTG team. Key objectives include managing space, product quality, production yield and shrink, worker safety, along with other continuous improvements objectives. Other duties might or will be assigned as per the direction of the Grower Operations Manager.
People:
·Supervise, manage and monitor all activities of section and assistant growers to meet or exceed overall crop culture parameters to meet and or exceed product quality specifications, realize crop ready dates while conserving resources needed to grow the crop.
·Coordinate the overall daily operation of the growing on facilities to ensure meeting communicated quality along with planned ready dates and inventories
·Using established training processes train, implement and modify water by weight operating procedures (SOPs) for all section and assistant growers.
·Manage section growers and assistants that would include, but not limited to work scheduling, daily task assignments, training, discipline or advancement.
·Manage and assign weekly space requirements for all weekly bump-up planting and MTG needs for all the growing on facilities.
·Manage and communicate needed internal moves to maximize space efficiencies in the growing on areas with both PPIC and Production labor departments and white boards.
·Review, and manage applications of growth regulators, biological and chemical pesticides and fungicides to meet the quality specifications for all of the rooted liner material.
·Schedule weekend, holiday staffing requirements for the growing on facilities
·On occasion, supervise other Section Growers and Assistant Growers in Propagation, New Product Development (weekends, vacation or holidays)
·Work with the Grower Operations manager and or HR to develop personal development programs and plans for management of growing on employees to develop and implement improvement programs to increase performance and efficiencies.
·Coordinate staffing needs with other growing departments, Production, PPIC and /or Human Resources
·Will be required to be on-call and to respond to emergency situations at any time. This may include scheduling issues, potentially covering a vacant shift, facility issues and or human resources requirements.
Crops:
·Assign crop locations in greenhouses, keeping crops with compatible cultural and watering needs together as is practical while managing resources conservatively and meeting communicated quality specifications
·Schedule and or organize the needed transfer of crops from one growing on facility to another as needed to meet space, quality, ready dates and inventory quantities for expected order fulfillment.
·Monitor and manage all section growers for all crops in “growing on” greenhouses to meet or exceed the conformance to production plan (ready dates and inventory) while maintaining or exceeding the quality standards.
·Train growing on section growers to manage the greenhouse environment along with being able to recognize specific cultural requirements needed for all growing on facilities.
·Train all growing on section growers to be fully capable of utilizing the Argus computer system
·Train Section Growers to perfect their skills in environmental controls, irrigation by tray weights, fertilization, pest and disease controls, crop maintenance/trimming plants to achieve described quality standards to meet the crops ready dates and order fulfillment
·Determine pesticide program based on Crop Health Scouting Reports, personal observation and diagnostic reports to control insects, disease and growth while maintaining our expected quality standards.
Processes:
·Supervise, manage and monitor all activities of section and assistant growers to meet or exceed overall crop culture parameters to meet and or exceed product quality specifications, realize crop ready dates while conserving resources needed to grow the crop.
·Using established training process implement and modify water by weight operating procedures (SOPs) for all Section and assistant growers
·Utilize and train section growers to manage their growing environments by the use of Argus or visual parameters to improve yield, reduced production losses and maintain or exceed our quality expectations of our rooted product
·Through Section Growers’ efforts, evaluate and report inventory accuracy for location, quantity, quality, ready dates and yield percentages.
·Drive production planning information with the assistance of the Grower Operations Manager and the section growers in reviewing production and schedule growing parameters with PPIC on a quarterly basis.
· To continually provide appropriate and improved crop culture, attend training opportunities, read industry magazines, trial new products or growing techniques with Grower Operations Managers approval
·Maintain greenhouses in safe, clean, orderly and weed free condition; report conditions that require repair to Maintenance in a timely and appropriate manner.
·Manage Section Growers and Assistant Growers efforts to continually maintain greenhouses (inside and outside) and corridors or connectors in safe, orderly, clean and weed free conditions.
·Manage and communicate weekly loss or expiration data to constantly control and minimize shrink.
·Prepare and analyze growing on operations data to enable future improvements.
