About the team: As part of ALM’s global newsroom, the Regulatory Desk is focused on emerging legal and compliance issues, state and federal regulatory trends, key lawyers and judges making news and the revolving door in Washington and beyond. Reporters on the desk keep close tabs on white-collar enforcement, financial services and banking, the cannabis industry, whistleblowers, U.S. Supreme Court cases and more. The Regulatory Desk collaborates closely with other teams of reporters on the Business of Law, Litigation, Culture and In-house desks. The senior editor on the desk is based in Washington, D.C.
ALM is looking for a versatile news reporter for the Regulatory Desk in Washington to cover the U.S. Justice Department and other key agencies, in addition to white-collar practices at major U.S. law firms. The position offers a range of reporting opportunities focused on enforcement and compliance; government affairs, lobbying and congressional oversight; and the revolving door. The ideal candidate would approach the beat from a 360-degree perspective, pursuing coverage through the vantage of law firms and lawyers and the agencies themselves. Coverage will focus often on identifying key private and government lawyers; spotlighting enforcement trends; and showing how law firms are engaging with regulators. Our ideal white-collar reporter would also be expected to keep close tabs on major federal trial and appellate decisions. This is a high-profile assignment for a reporter who wants to write for a national audience and we are looking for an individual who is eager to break news, write analysis and have a voice on social media.
