The Company: Our client is a cannabis compliance testing laboratory based in San Diego, CA performing analysis in accordance with the Bureau of Cannabis Control’s regulations.
Position: The Laboratory Director will be responsible for running the lab safely and efficiently. Responsible for all scientific aspects of the lab, including equipment, supplies, software, and documentation.
Skills/Qualifications:
- A doctoral degree in biological, chemical, agricultural, environmental, or related sciences from an accredited college or university. A master’s degree in biological, chemical, agricultural, environmental, or related sciences from an accredited college or university, plus at least 2 years of full-time practical experience. A bachelor’s degree in biological, chemical, agricultural, environmental, or related sciences from an accredited college or university, plus at least 4 years of full-time practical experience.
- Exceptional wet laboratory technique and ability to perform documentation pursuant to ISO standards.
- At least 2 years of experience in a regulated or high throughput laboratory environment. Working knowledge of microbiology methods for the analysis of environmental, agricultural and food samples, including AOAC, FDA, BAM, ISO. Experience with qPCR and sterile technique is beneficial.
Responsibilities:
- Reviews and maintains upkeep of all scientific instrumentation and operations at the laboratory.
- Manages method development and validation for analytical instrumentation
- Responsible for instrument calibration and quality controls.
- Works with Lab Manager to oversee all scientific personnel training and professional development.
- Monitors sample preparation, techniques and training procedures.
- Adheres to strict standard operating procedures and ensures laboratory personnel are competent in performing assigned tasks and handling of instrumentation.
- Ensures that all data generated by the scientific team meet quality control requirements.
- Adheres to regulatory compliance with California's Bureau of Cannabis Control laboratory regulations.
- Ensures compliance with ISO 17025 accreditation, GLP and ongoing improvement of quality management system.
- Adheres to established turn-around times.
- Identifies and implements new technologies and methodologies to improve laboratory workflow and data quality.
- Implements appropriate planning for growth, technology upgrades and transitions.
- Assists in overall upkeep and maintenance of the laboratory.
- Ability to operate and maintain analytical instrumentation including, but not limited to HPLC, GC-MS, LC-MS, ICP-MS (PerkinElmer)
Physical Demand: Requires prolonged standing, frequent sitting, bending stooping, and occasional lifting up to 40 pounds. Requires normal range of hearing, color-vision and manual dexterity equipment as needed. Requires ability to work under stressful conditions and possess good communication and problem-solving skills.
