Full Job Description
Meowy Jane is looking for a full-time Assistant Cultivation Manager for $70,000 a year for our medical cannabis garden. We’re in the process of converting our garden over to adult-use, we have an adult-use retail store opening soon in the Old Port, and we have plans to expand all these areas while operating in full compliance with state and local law.
Our mission is simple: to grow the finest cannabis the world has ever known. Kidding, but also totally serious. We give this garden everything we’ve got in an attempt to grow cannabis we’re proud of and people will enjoy. It’s a TON of work, but the payoff is intensely satisfying and rewarding.
If you are driven by scientific curiosity, have no problem working like a farmer (this IS commercial agriculture after all), and derive immense satisfaction from producing exceptional quality products that people love, you should apply!
If you’re ready to join our legendary crew of nerdy gardeners with hearts of gold, and you solemnly swear to do your best to be a good person, support the people you work with, and give it everything you’ve got to make Meowy Jane succeed, we’ll happily return the favor. We hope to see your career in the cannabis industry thrive!
Responsibilities and Duties
- You will be helping us grow cannabis. From start to finish. This is a big, artificial environment that constantly needs to be maintained while also giving each and every plant the TLC it needs from start to finish.
- Observational decision-making is paramount, and a keen attention to detail enables our team to regularly adapt to unpredictable aspects of plant production.
- You will be trained to handle all aspects of the daily care of cannabis from seed/clone to harvest; monitoring and controlling the environment to get the best results and prevent failures, keep the garden supplied, keep it super clean and organized, keep it compliant, and generally become the master of all things related to a cannabis cultivation business.
- We ALL do EVERYTHING in the garden. Ego and a rigid hierarchy do not play a factor here, just be awesome, enthusiastic and psyched to accomplish any given task.
- One key point: We are looking to have someone available for the weekend shift.
Required Experience, Education, Characteristics, etc.
- Evidence of excellence in your past. You should have a work/education history showing you've taken on difficult things and you've done them well. Or even if you didn’t do them well, you understand why and learned from them. Cannabis comes with a steep learning curve, and your chances of success in this position will be significantly better if you’re truly a good fit for the position.
- We do not require experience with cannabis. Depending on the experience, it can actually be a good thing if you come into this with a clean slate. As my old Kung Fu sifu me, “It’s hard to fill a cup that is already full.” And by “kung fu sifu”, I mean the movie “Avatar”. With the blue aliens, not the airbending.
- Having some kind of commercial agriculture, chemistry, HVAC engineering, or even a manufacturing related experience would definitely be a great starting point, but if you're a capable, self-driven, and extremely curious person with a good head for science and business, we can work with that.
- We use computers. A lot. You don't have to be a software engineer or a wizard at spreadsheets, but we use computers for pretty much everything. If your email still ends with @aol.com, I'm not saying this will definitely be a bad fit (you could be a gardening mega genius), but computers are a fact of life over here and a mandatory component of the job.
- Planning, prioritization, and time management skills are about 99% of the job.
- Did we mention attention to detail is critical? Ok, great. I’m not saying I personally have the greatest attention to detail, but that’s why I know it’s important!
- A positive attitude and collaborative work spirit is required as a productive addition to our team.
- Integrity. This is a given and an absolute requirement.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds for a distance of 100 feet. This is a physical job.
- Ability to spend extended time standing, walking, bending, and reaching.
- Surprising amount of need for repetitive use of your arms, hands, and fingers. Pruning plants, transplanting, cloning, setting up feed lines, etc.
- Must be a Maine resident.
- Must be 21 years of age or older. We don't make the rules.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: From $70,000.00 per year
Benefits:
- Paid time off
Schedule:
- 8 hour shift
- Weekends
Work Location:
- One location
Benefit Conditions:
- Only full-time employees eligible
Work Remotely:
- No
COVID-19 Precaution(s):
- Remote interview process
- Social distancing guidelines in place
- Virtual meetings
- Sanitizing, disinfecting, or cleaning procedures in place
