Description:
You will bring your experience to demonstrate and provide application support for cannabis/environmental/food/beverage customers.
This scientist role will work closely with internal partners (sales, service, and product teams) to support pre-sale visits and presentations with customers.
In this role, you will also conduct product demonstrations, method development and troubleshooting, as well as customer training and technical support.
The job function includes up to 75% of travel in North America and requires the candidate to live near demo lab in Boston or San Francisco.
Responsibilities:
Provide applications training in customer laboratories on SCIEX hardware and software platforms.
Prepare and deliver customer demonstrations that show SCIEX LCMS product features.
Analyze samples submitted by prospective customers and present results.
Perform application development at advancing use of LCMS in the cannabis/environmental/food/beverage markets.
Identify major opportunities for the applications of SCIEX technology.
Provide online/telephone customer technical support.
Qualifications:
BS or higher degree is desired in chemistry or biology
2 years or more of strong experience in analytical method development on LC-MS/MS on different platforms including triple quadrupole, QTRAP and Triple TOF.
2 years or more of practical experience on LC/MS applications in one or more of the following areas: cannabis, environmental, food & beverage.
Extensive sample preparation and strong chromatographic separation skills and experiences are essential.
Strong troubleshooting skills for HPLC and MS are highly desirable.
Excellent presentation, communication and customer facing skills mandatory

Position: Principal Application Scientist - Mass Spectrometry

Overview: The Principal Application Scientist is responsible for delivering high-quality, relevant scientific content to the business, including, but not limited to Application Notes, White Papers, and end-market standard operating procedures supporting key strategic segments including food, environmental, cannabis, and forensic toxicology; and mass spectrometry workflows identified to support end-to-end customer solutions. The successful candidate will provide technical requirements to product development, be responsible for representing PerkinElmer at key conferences and trade shows, be able to present at scientific meetings and internal training, and develop and maintain key collaborations across the product portfolio.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

• Understanding customers’ current and future needs and designing application development strategies to address those needs.
• Interfacing with Marketing and Field Application Scientists for Voice of Customer (VOC) to assist R&D for new product development
• Generating verified methods, application notes, posters, and/or peer reviewed publications for developed applications
• Driving execution of turn-key applications development for respective markets
• Conducting post-development support including but not limited to verified method implementation, and occasionally performing instrument and method troubleshooting
• Evaluating competitive publications and presentations and devising a clear strategy to demonstrate PerkinElmer’s competitive edge
• Acting as a subject matter expert and influencer to the R&D organization during implementation and conceptualization of new products
• Continual assessment of current literature and best practices
• Using laboratory procedures and techniques for which he/she is qualified and trained to validate and help troubleshoot new and existing tests and instrumentation
• Recognizing unexpected results, errors, and problems with applications, experiments and/or instrumentation and escalates as required
• Effectively communicating project progression and any hurdles with manager, R&D, other team members, and key stakeholders
• Maintaining, calibrating and operating instrumentation and other lab equipment

Basic Qualifications:

• Masters' Degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related scientific discipline
• 8 Years of experience in an analytical laboratory environment
• Familiarity with mass spectrometry chromatography platforms (LC/MSMS, GC/MS etc)

Preferred Qualifications:

• Ph.D in Chemistry, biochemistry or related scientific discipline
• Demonstrates a sound understanding of the fundamentals of laboratory procedures, and the use of PerkinElmer products
• Passionate about working in a lab developing applications to address customer needs
• Strong scientific written and oral communication skills. Interacts with cross-functional team members and peers to anticipate and resolve day to day issues. Interacts with other divisions, customers and suppliers on routine matters to achieve results
• Knowledge of chromatography theory and mass spectrometry instrumentation
• Experience with laboratory automation

The hourly rate or salary range for this role is 77,900 – 107,100. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and this range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in Colorado. This range may be modified in the future.
This job is also eligible for bonus.

Where you'll work

Our Seattle, WA facility is licensed by the WA State Liquor & Cannabis Board and the WA Department of Agriculture for cannabinoid processing, food manufacturing, and Research & Development. This position works primarily within our R&D department, and inside our ISO cleanroom, as required.

What you'll do

This Research, Development and Application Senior Scientist will work to bring novel, liquid compatible, cannabinoid based formulations to market. This includes concept ideation, research, development and commercialization of new formulations and products.

• Lead formulation and development from end-to-end on internal and customer projects within North America.
• Use sound commercial and technical awareness of ingredients, processes, materials, and customer requirements to deliver on project objectives.
• Develop innovative solutions to help grow Flowe's market within cost parameters and manufacturing capabilities while ensuring all new products meet legal standards within country of use.
• Manage Pilot Plant validation work and facilitate first production trials of new products internally and with customers.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to a growing RD&A team.
• Build strong relationships with customer contacts via clear communication, on-site and virtual visits, presentations and supporting trials when required.
• Support sales and business representatives during customer calls through technical presentations and product demonstrations.
• Work within cross-functional teams to optimize the strengths of our IP and deliver the best experience for our customers.
• Study methods to improve quality of formulations physical, chemical, and microbiological composition in addition to flavor, color, texture, nutritional value, etc.

What you'll need to be successful

• BS/MS in Food Science, Food Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 10+ years of experience in key formulation research & development roles for both food and beverage products.
• Significant powder processing/manufacturing experience – dry blending, spray drying, plating, agglomeration/granulation.
• Experience in RTD product research and development, with successful commercialization.
• Strong knowledge of emulsion chemistry including particle sizing and stabilization techniques.
• Knowledge of food chemistry, sensory, microbiology, food packaging systems and food engineering.
• Prior experience working under FDA and/or cGMP considerations.

The demo/field applications scientist is responsible for demonstration and application support for cannabis/environmental/food/beverage customers. This role will support our triple quadrupole, QTRAP and TripleTOF platforms. The Applications Scientist will work closely with Sales team, Engineers, Product team and other peer Demo Scientists and Application Scientists to support pre-sale visits and presentations, product application and demonstration, method development and troubleshooting, customer training and technical support. The job function includes up to 50% of travel in North America and requires the candidate to live near one of our demo labs. Qualifications:
BS or higher degree is desired in chemistry or biology
2 years or more of strong experience in bioanalytical method development on LC-MS/MS on different platforms including triple quadrupole, QTRAP and Triple TOF.
2+ years practical experience on LC/MS applications in at least one of the following areas: cannabis, environmental, food & beverage.
Extensive sample preparation and strong chromatographic separation skills and experiences are essential.
Strong troubleshooting skills for HPLC and MS are highlight desirable.
Excellent presentation, communication and customer facing skills required
Able to travel 50% of the time

APPLICATION SCIENTIST -Flash Chromatography:

The Application Scientist will provide a scientific foundation to Advion’s puriFlash separation and purification product line by developing a sound understanding of customer needs, developing applications and performing sample preparation activities in the key disciplines of:

· Organic synthetic chemistry separation/isolation

· Natural products purification including hemp/cannabis

· Food/Flavor chemistry

The incumbent will support commercial activities and sales through the generation of data for application notes and technical literature (MarCom) and will communicate product operation and sample preparation techniques to customers through demonstrations, training courses, and formal presentations at conferences and scientific meetings. The incumbent will also contribute to the customer service and technical improvement activities as assigned.

Up to 33% overnight travel may be required, working onsite with customers or participating in scientific conferences and meetings. Occasional international travel if needed (< 10%).

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Develop effective analytical methodology for the separation and isolation of small molecules in various matrices.

· Generate new data by working with Advion colleagues and customers in our key application areas. Data will take the form of application notes, publications in peer reviewed journals and/or slides for oral and poster presentations at conferences.

· Interact with customers and markets to define new applications and open new markets.

· Interact with Marketing Communications to help develop effective marketing strategies and campaigns.

· Interact with prospective customers to support the sales process.

· Provide onsite and telephone support and problem solving for customers experiencing sample preparation and analysis difficulties.

· Provide onsite customer training and applications assistance as part of Advion’s initiative for post installation, application-specific training.

· Conduct on- and off-site demonstrations of the company’s products to potential customers in support of Advion’s sales and marketing efforts.

· Interact with customers by phone or by laboratory visits to establish analysis needs, analyze customer samples, and provide reports to customers to support the sales process.

· Provide training classes for customers at Advion’s Ithaca facilities.

· Work closely with the research and engineering group to develop and test new products.

This position will report directly to the Director, Customer Service and Application Development.

REQUIREMENTS:

· Masters degree in analytical chemistry, food sciences or pharmacology/toxicology. PhD level training is a plus. Other degree with demonstrated experience will be considered.

· Must possess in-depth knowledge and expertise of modern liquid chromatography separation (TLC, Flash, preparative HPLC, preferably with experience in organic synthetic chemistry separation, natural products isolation and/or food/flavor chemistry

· A demonstrated background of hardware skills and ability to troubleshoot liquid chromatography based scientific instruments as well as excellent communication and people skills.

· General knowledge of mass spectrometry with atmospheric pressure ionization (ESI and APCI) would be a plus.

· Three or more years of experience of application development or other hands-on laboratory work with liquid chromatography.

· US Citizen or Green Card holder

· Position is based in Ithaca, NY and requires up to 33% travel (< 10% international).

• Understand customers’ current and future needs and design application development strategy to address those needs.
• Drive execution of turn-key applications development for respective markets.
• Generate standard operating procedures, application notes, posters, and/or peer reviewed publications for developed applications
• Conduct post development support including but not limit to SOP implementation, troubleshooting.
• Act as a subject matter expert and influencer to the R&D organization during implementation and conceptualization of new product.
• Evaluate competitive publications and presentations and come up with a clear strategy to demonstrate PerkinElmer’s competitive edge.
• Demonstrate independent and creative scientific thinking, ability in solving complex problems, and resilience to setbacks and changes.
• Maintain and operate laboratory equipment, identify maintenance needs and ensure equipment is operational.
• Be a team player and put team objectives above personal ambitions.

• Master’s degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry is required.
• Ph.D. is preferred.
• Knowledge of mass spectrometer theory and components is a must.
• 3+ years of hands on experience with LC-MSMS system.
• Ability to troubleshoot LC-MSMS related issues.
• Experience in cannabis, food, environmental applications of mass spec is preferred.
• Ability to dissect problems and projects into manageable tasks.
• Passionate about working in a lab developing applications to address customer needs.
• Excellent group interaction skills and negotiating skills.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks with different priorities.
• Excellent presentation skills in front of internal teams, customers, and large audience (during conferences).

This role will specialize in the use of our Organic portfolio in chemical, food safety, cannabis, environmental, pharmaceutical and industrial applications with an emphasis on cannabis applications. This role provides sales support for our GC and GCMS products to include applications development, training and presales activities. Preference on location is West Coast, Northern California is ideal.
Our Team
The Discovery and Analytical Solutions group services the Pharmaceutical, Manufacturing, Food and Beverage, including Cannabis, Chemical, Agriculture, and Government markets. The Field Application Scientists works closely with the sales team to optimize the research scope and vision for our customers.
Job Responsibilities

• Execute technical product demonstrations/presentations to individual prospects and seminar audiences in support of pre-sales activity including workshops and RFI/RFP support for product area.
• Provide subject matter expertise in the areas of GC, GCMS analysis to support customers in understanding how to maximize their use of our software applications
• Collaborate with all Field Team members to develop and deploy world-class systems and tools and provide front-line support to sales as the Field application Scientist
• Provide and deliver product training to field (marketing & sales) as new features/functionality are available for designated product and domain specialty
• Coordinate with Product Management to identify, communicate, and incorporate new product enhancements and also with the Services team to insure we deliver competitive solutions that are differentiated through value as perceived by our customers
• Characterize the external market by performing pipeline analysis and competitive assessments for region and scientific domain
• Coordinate with Marketing Communications organization to develop and participate in marketing campaign design and execution as needed
• Present a professional image at all times to customers, clients and other vendors.

• MS, PhD and/or BS in a scientific discipline or equivalent with 5 plus years in the Chromatography and Mass Spectroscopy field.
• Experience and working knowledge of GC and GCMS including sample preparation requirements.
• Current or previous scientific expertise and experience with a customer focus and excellent communication skills
• Willingness for as much as 50% overnight travel.
