Position Summary (Duties)
A2LA is currently seeking qualified individuals to fill the role of Accreditation Officer (AcO). This position is full-time (exempt) and will be based in Frederick, MD. An AcO oversees the day-to-day accreditation operations and ensures the quality and competency of assigned laboratories by monitoring the processes, procedures, and applicable standards in relation to the accreditation process.
The primary duties of this position may include:
Serving as the A2LA contact for up to 130 accredited laboratories and laboratories seeking accreditation.
Facilitate the accreditation process for various laboratories seeking and maintaining accreditation.
Review and audit information submitted, including deficiency reports, root cause analysis, and corrective action, ultimately making a recommendation to accredit or not to accredit based on information collected throughout the accreditation process.
Act as a subject matter expert for various ISO standards, A2LA requirements, government regulations, and other applicable policies and procedures.
Maintain currency of data and information for accredited laboratories, those seeking accreditation, and other relevant stakeholders.
Respond to technical inquiries via telephone and/or email.
Participate in the Annual A2LA Technical Forum and Annual Meeting.
Opportunities exist for travel to testing and/or calibration laboratories on the behalf of A2LA.
This position does not include hands-on technical work.

Qualifications
A2LA may provide exceptions to educational requirements for veterans who demonstrate the ability to perform the duties listed in this job posting.
A successful candidate for these positions typically meets the following criteria:
Bachelor's degree in a scientific field of study (Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Life Science, Biology, Chemistry, etc.) preferred. Other degrees may be considered
Bilingual in English/Spanish required.
Laboratory experience preferred.
Strong organizational skills and close attention to detail.
Strong customer orientation.
Excellent interpersonal and oral/written communication skills.
Ability to work independently and remain self-motivated with minimal direct supervision.
Strong ability to multitask and adapt to constantly changing priorities.
Basic computer proficiency (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
Knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025 and quality management systems (QMS) is preferred, but not required.
A2LA provides onsite training and a detailed mentoring program to ensure a candidate's success within our organization and in this position.
